I've just bought my cf50 and I connot figure out how to change it to 3rd gear

The same way you changed it from 1st to 2nd.

It wont shift into higher gears unbless the bike and/or engine are rotating so if you're sat on it in the garage making brumming noises, you won't get it into third.

Are you sure you are setting off in first and not second?

It shifts normally to 1st and 2nd but in can't for some reason

This is when we find out that the gearbox is 1 down and 2 up and you are expecting 3 up.....

does the shifter return after shifting, or does it stay in place?

If it stays in place, then it probably needs either: removed, cleaned/lubricated, or perhaps the shifter return spring is worn or has snapped.
