I've taken in a poorly 2014 Kymco CK1 for a neighbour that his son ran dry and now won't start. I'm 90% sure it's got a blocked idle jet from the symptoms and very sparky spark plug.

Now the annoying bit. As is standard with Mikuni carbs, the float bowl screws are stuck and made of cheese. So I want to take the carb off to get it on a work bench. However on the side of the carb is some electrical gubbins with a connector that refuses to come off.

Am I correct in thinking I need to snap off the little red bits on the connector and then accept it'll never go together again without bodgery? I know I could buy a silly tamper proof screw driver to remove the unit, which is another option. Oh and the cable goes straight into the main loom. Sad

Oh and yes the carb is upside-down. That's my desperate attempt at trying to soak the float bowl screws in penetrating fluid.

I've seen some of those silly red bits on something before, but I can't remember what. I don't think you break them, I think there's a cunning way, but ICBW.

Interesting. I've just remembered that I have a security torx set that I bought ages ago. I guess I'm hunting for those tomorrow. Would be good to know what I'm removing though...anyone have a clue?

This is bugging me ("you too, huh?"). I thought I had one but I haven't. ISTR you have to pull them up, sideways or down, or maybe they ara part of another thing and move when that's pushed/whatnot. Blast. Sorry.

I reckon the outer bit is the locking part of the connector and has to be pulled away (over the red bits) to release it

Those red bits need to be slid backwards out of the plug, they're blocking the "flap" from pivoting up when you push the release tab in. if there's no tab to push try sliding a thin screwdriver gently up thae gap between the connector and the sensor to lift the locking flappy bit.

TPS? On a carb?
It's an Autochoke.

Nope! Choke is manual, cable operated. It's a 2014, lots of mad emissions stuff on there I don't understand...

I'll have another go at this. I have a lot of cable ties if I screw it up. Laughing

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I'll have another go tomorrow or Saturday and let you know what happens.

Unfortunately there is NOTHING online about this bike, despite there being loads around (looking at ebay and gumtree). You can't even get an air filter for it from a UK supplier as far as I can see. Very odd...

Fucking loads of carb'd bikes had TPS. Pretty common by the mid 90s.

Both my carbed 125s had a TPS. Removing them means realigning when you put it back. Service manual should have numbers for closed and WOT resistances. Check it.

You can take the security stud out of a torx with a pin punch and hammer.
