Have you not read, the Rocket is about to be re-introduced this year, as for the rest, well, I suppose they'll only build what makes a profit for them, especially after the range had to go through the expense of becoming E4 compliant, no point in keeping the dead wood.
Alot of manufacturers have streamlined to varying degrees, as they amend their ranges with E4 compliant bikes, with some jut not being worth the time, effort and money to be made to comply.
I say E4, but, in many territories, environmental and other regulations have been, or are being introduced that match very closely.
Then, of course, in China especially, you have the push for electric vehicles, and they are way ahead of most other countries in that respect. ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

Completely agree, I went on their website over Christmas and felt exactly the same. There's no practical road bike on there unless you go for an adventure bike. The Sprint's gone, Daytona's gone, no more RS, even the Speed Triple has lost a lot of it's practicality. I have a 2002 Speed T and it has a decent pillion seat, some underseat storage, and a small luggage rack. As an everyday bike it's useable - I've strapped all sorts to it rather than take a car.
Now all the bikes are style first, weekend use only. |

Actually, if you took a 2010 Street Triple (can't comment on later ones), put a more substantial top fairing on it and a more substantial seat, you'd have a pretty competent all-rounder. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I'm not convinced by that argument because the engines for the Daytona, Sprint and Trophy are all compliant as they are used in their present range in one form or another. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

There is the Street and Speed triples. The Tiger adventure bikes and the rest are the retro/hipster twins.
No Daytona (no sports bike at all), no Trophy or Sprint tourers, no Rocket 3, in fact nothing really exotic or groundbreaking at all.
Is it just Triumph or are other bike manufacturers drastically streamlining their range as well? |
I think things will change. Now that Triumph are supplying the engines for Moto2 they would be crazy not to make a Daytona. They are selling a lot of adventure and classic bikes but they have 'heritage' for those. Similarly, sports tourers are out of fashion, but the comparative success of the VFR800F, Z1000SX and Ducati Supersport might coax other manufacturers back into the Sports Tourer fold.
The issue that I see is the Hipster fad is due to die out soon, and at that time the flat brown seated brat bikes will all languish in showrooms. That's when you need a Sportsbike, a sports tourer and so on.
Triumph are one of the more canny manufacturers in terms of product development and product range. They have to be, as they don't have the resources of a Honda or Kawasaki, or even a BMW.
I have such confidence in Triumph that I'm certain they'll either make a ton of money with their current range when other manufacturers have as bunch of unfashionable bikes in their range, or they'll release some bikes they are lacking just in time for those segments to rebound.
Currently their major hole would probably be an electric bike if I'm honest... ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

Is that for a fat middle-aged arse? Honestly the words Street Triple and all-rounder is how I'd describe the bike anyway. I think that's why people rave about them, as you can't really fault the bike, but it depends what you like and whether you find 'quirky' more fun. |
My fat arse is now gone
Just a middle-aged one now.
If they just put a comfortable seat on it in the first place...
Yeah, it's not terrible as an all-rounder. But wouldn't take much to make it even better.
I think it's quite sporty on the handling front, or would be if it had decent suspension (or perhaps if I could have been bothered to dial mine in properly ). Perhaps more sport focussed than anything else. I liked it because of that - my Fazer already did tourer better than a Striple ever could. And tbh, in some ways, handles better too, more planted, but still changes direction nicely, soaks up the bumps better. The Striple was flighty by comparison...as you'd expect really, being so much lighter.
The seat - well, I was really thinking seat/tail, something more luggage friendly, perhaps with a decent bit of storage underneath.
A top fairing would make a lot of difference - much more tolerable on motorways for e.g., and just general weather protection.
Oh, and give it a fuel gauge, along with maybe a slightly larger tank. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Mine was the R.
And I also bought a gel seat. It still wasn't great, a bit better. But why not just put a comfortable one on in the factory and be done with it? Not like the gel seat altered the look, or added significant weight. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I think you're a suspension malcontent |
I probably should have just dialled it in properly, as I said. It was still a great little bike, even with it set to "fucking solid".
I am spoiled by my Fazer suspension since upgrading it. I have never known anything so good in that department. You wouldn't think such a big, heavy bike could handle so beautifully, and still deal with just about every road surface it encounters with never an even mildly concerning moment.
@MarJay: yes, I have no doubt that, like the Fazer, the Striple is one of those bikes worth spending a little on to make it even better. But I'd already done that with the Fazer, which suits me more, and my funds were limited.
It's not that I wasn't confident in it - I ragged the shit out of it after all ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Or the seat The bike came with a new/standard seat which I flogged on eBay, I thought about swapping it with the gel seat but never did. |
Have you ridden it much? I think I finished fixing it during one of my breaks from the forum, which's probably why I finished it I had to replace the loom... again , luckily the second one worked properly as I would have had a mental breakdown.
It's too cold to ride now, I'm happy jumping in the car and turning the heated seats up full |

They're probably just being cautious for a bit. They've just posted an over 60% loss in profit despite increased turnover and attributed it solely to exchange rates, which aren't likely to improve in the very near future. ____________________ CBT - 17/09/12 * Theory - 23/10/12 * Mod1 - 05/03/13 * Mod2 - 25/03/13 * BOSH!

Hope we don't see any Eastern Europe made Triumph's as a result of this though?
Regards 2019's bikes being uninspiring, well I'd have to agree there, and Im unqualified to comment as I probably don't know what half of them are?
If I had to buy a new bike, well theres a couple of Italian bikes and a few supermotos I like the look of.
But Japanese stuff? The 400 Ninja would do me as an all rounder if it didn't look so H2 ugly. Or the Z650 twin maybe? I like the retro Z900 and the RD900LC Yamaha MT09 based bikes, though neither have the look spot on as std.
I can see some potential in the Honda CBR650 for fun and personalisation too, ditto the CB1100. I'd generally avoid full on sports bikes with a passion now at least new ones, and I'd rather have a decent retro over a huge adventure bike, overpowered off roader, or super naked with electronic modes and shit. All my choices are old men bikes!
Oh and the new Suzuki Katana is laughable. It looks nothing like a Katana, doesnt have a shiny silver engine or clip on bars, so I'm very much out! I don't buy this almost make a retro copy but put high bars on it, because the old bastards we're try to get to buy one can't ride it otherwise. A full retro copy or nothing is my preference. |
