Crap, Heavy, needs a lot of work to be anything special. I wasn't a fan, flogged it off quickly when I had one 20+ years ago, and I love 2T bikes.
Regardless of bike used, Scrambler/cafe racer build are almost always some fuckwit slapping a flat "seat" covered in a shitty brown vinyl on a subframe with birdshit welding, mounting holes wallered out by the blunt masonry bit they used to drill it, and poundlands finest gloss black, sans primer (or any prep at all). Well done ones are few and far between.
If you want a 2T, then why not something rare, unusual, or barking mad? ____________________ '98 VFR800 (touring) - '12 VFR800 Crosrunner (Commuting) - '01 KDX220 (Big Green Antisocial Machine) |

If you want to have a go on ''unusual'' retro machine, try Jawa, CZ, MZ... Those things will run regardless of how crappy the previous owners were, plus all the parts, and I mean all of them, are still widely available and affordable (still being manufactured). All of the consumables are generic, all of the motorcycles are very simple machines, very easy to keep alive. Also, very good MPG, compared to my previous motorcycles.
The best, most advanced, of those three is MZ. I ride MZ 150 ETZ, Perfect for daily riding it. A 250 variant would be nice (*cough, a 250 engine fits into the 150/125 frame). Maintenance cost is negligible.
EDIT II: MZ (etz) also came with contactless ignition as standard. Runs better, smoother and starts with ease, no need to fiddle with it, will never wear out. Unlike the Jawa/CZ/Suzuki GTs, which came with the ''old'' contact point ignition. So I would definitely be upgrading that, if I got such motorcycle. You would not believe the difference, upgrading a motorcycle from contact point to contactless ignition, plus once you set the contactless ignition up, it'll stay perfect forever! ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

A lot of bs about points. On my YR5 I adjusted them twice in eight years, not because they were hugely out of tune, but because I wanted to justify have the generator cover off. The only advantage of going CDI is if you go for a programmable system. Points are lighter as well. ____________________ Be a REAL MAN! |

Only from 1989 onwards (ETZ 251 models). ETZ's were made from 1981. As far as I'm aware, contactless ingition was an option, as a lot of post '89 until '91 had contact breakers still. It was only after '91 until MZ's demise that they seemed to have it as standard.
And, to me- contact breakers vs electronic ignition- I've felt no difference really.. Just like iridium sparkies. If everything is set up properly, the standard items of release will last thousands of miles without adjustment. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

This has nothing to do with iffy two strokes, sorry. |
A bloke across the road from me when I were a kid had one. He used it every day. It didn't grab my attention like the gleaming red and black Benelli 900 Sei around the corner, that nearly destroyed my ear drums every time it went past.
Also no help to OP, sorry ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
