The government rules are designed to make it impossible to frack.
Stopping every time there's a 0.5 magnitude earthquake is ridiculous. There are earthquakes in the UK, stronger than that on an almost daily basis even without fracking.

California suffers from tectonic movement.
One of the solutions is to drill holes near the San Andreas Fault and pump water in.
Earth quakes happen when plates cannot slide over or against each other and load builds up until it overcomes resistance and movement that could have taken place over years all happens in seconds
Fracking is much the same principle though in oil reservoirs.
I've worked on well that have been cracked and never noticed any earth quakes.
Flawed evidence and the usual pish diagram from the media.

The problem with fracking is the UK just isn't big enough for substantial shale gas.
It's a much cleaner fuel to burn than Coal.
The country which has really benefited from it is the US. Huge country with large quantities of shale gas.
God knows what Americas pollution figures would be like if it hadn't cleaned up a bit with Shale.

The UK has a substantial reserve. It has been test drilled for drilling plans. They do not normally drill holes without some serious considerations. (OK they do fuck it up sometimes.)
A well might cost $100 Million and more.

I think the 0.3 on the Richter is nothing. Buses passing a house on a main road make more shakery.

I say Frack and be dammed. (The gas fields are all under England which has a bonus effect for Scotland. Our land prices will probably double when England is flatted.) Just joking you overly sensitive fairies.
