I used Ohlins 5w when I replaced the fork springs at the same time

If only draining the oil I used a cheap thin oil to flush out the cartridge before pouring in the quality oil

I then made up a tool for measuring the air gap before inserting the new fork springs

Motorex is another quality oil if Ohlins is not easily available Thumbs Up

There is lots of good advice for R1s on www.yamahar.co.uk

Thank you 👍
A member there already. I've gone for motul 10w which is what they recommend for the 4xv. If it's too stiff I'll go down to 5w.

The price was right on the motul. 2l for £20 Vs the £25 per litre I could find for other brands

That's a cool tool you made. I was going to just buy one Laughing
What did you make it out of?

The air gap tool was made out of a soap dispenser pump and a suitable length of tube, depending on the measurement required.Just fill to just over the amount specified, pump the cartridge and add more if necessary.Works a treat and costs pennies Thumbs Up Wink

If you find 5w too light and 10w too harsh, then mix equal amounts to get 7.5w Wink

I am on the yamahar forum as YAMAEXUP Thumbs Up
