 |
|
Just a warning. Was a nice sunny afternoon and i was riding along with my visor up when i felt something fly in. Assuming it was a stone i carried on riding but put my visor down a little. Little while later at about 65mph i noticed that it wasn't actually a stone that had gone into my helmet but a very large wasp
As you can imagine it was not a nice feeling being trapped in my helmet with a large angry stinging creature. Anyway i did a very quick emergency stop and opened my visor. By now the wasp thought it would be amusing to crawl across the top of my sunglasses...
Took the oppertunity to knock it out of my helmet.
Got away without a sting...very lucky. Just a warning to you all ____________________ Stupidity is unbeatable, but that doesn't mean we should give up fighting it. |

Tip: If an insect finds it's way in, open your visor fully, turn your head round as far as possible and it usually will be drawn out. Obviously you need to going at a reasonable speed for this to work, or if it has managed to find it's way into your ear or something, it aint gonna happen!
But it works for me. ____________________ Part-time GSXR1000 pilot>Micron Serpert system+K&N, PC111, Sigma slipper clutch, Brembo m/c+Galfer discs, Gilles rearsets, Translogic Quickshifter.

On my way to Matlock with a mate and suddenly I noticed he had disappeared out of my mirrors. I pulled over and waited ...... and waited..... He never appeared so I turned around to find him sitting next to his bike with his head in his hands (not literally), when he lifted it up his nose was bleeding and his eye was cut. Apparently a bird hit him in the face at around 50mph. He had some shining black eyes for a couple of weeks after.
As for me I have swallowed a few flying things while riding. ____________________ Andy Sez....

It's the same kind of principle as a water operated vacuum pump. Fluid rapidly passing a cavity/ apeture will draw whatever is in that cavity out with it, creating a vacuum in a closed cavity.
In this case, the air passing past the cavity of your visor opening draws air out of the opening, sucking whatever is loose in there with it and drawing air in through the neck opening.
Trying it with a reasonably airtight helmet skirt could be interesting, as it might manage to create a better partial vacuum; ear-popping stuff. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Got a wasp inside my lid when I was doing my DAS, I'm very allergic to them, thankfully I was only practising U-turns and was able to get it out pretty quick.
Suffice to say I couldn't see out of my visor, it was completely steamed up from over hyper-ventilation |

Thanks for posting the pic. That'll make sure we don't all sit here wondering what a wasp is. |

I had a fly go into my eye at 40 or 50, it was watering for about 3 hours literally. ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

You know, because of a childhood accident involving one foot and one wasps nest on the ground, I'd probably have screamed like a girl. |

The worst I've had so far is some really big insect hitting the open chin-vent on my Arai last summer ... and bursting. I had to ride another five miles before I could stop at a cafe for a cuppa to swill my mouth out
