ZX-6R - What calipers?

My front calipers are buggered on my '01 ZX-6R J2, rather than get the rebuild kit it should be cheaper and easier to just buy some other calipers.

I know that the same Tokico 6 pots were used on other bikes - but which ones?

Before I fitted Busa 6 potters to my RF I measured up a set on a ZXR7 and they were the same offset and bolt centres, so pretty much any Suzi or Kawa 6 potters should fit I reckon.

However, what's to say that the next set of calipers you get - presumably second-hand and off e-bay or similar - won't need a rebuild when you get them? Might as well just stump up for a new set of seals for the ones you've got.

Gotta agree with Guest here, it maybe cheaper in the long run to buy a rebuild kit, after all new seals and pistons don't cost much at all, and atleast you'll know they'll be good for a few thousand miles too.

Say your calipers are crook - it'll cost you £100 to do them up

You buy some s/h calipers for £60 - they're crook also. Add another £100 ............ Sick

I have heard stories that Kawasaki charge a lot less than Suzuki for the same seals - anyone got any recent prices?

Should be less than £60 for 2nd hand calipers with a bit of waiting.

New seals for a GPZ500S front caliper were £3.35 + £3.65 + £3.35 + £3.93 = £14.28, plus VAT so £16.78, and that is for a single basic 2 piston sliding caliper (prices from yesterday). The ZX6R will need 6 times as many seals. If say half the pistons need replacing then that is probably at least another £60.

Advantage of a set of 2nd hand calipers is that even if they do not last long you have a spare set to repair at your leisure, or you can salvage the best pistons from each caliper and have not cost yourself anything extra.
