I'm interested in finding out the price of something, I'm curious as to what the 'going rate' is. To cut a long story short, been riding a year and am planning to do my theory and full licence early next year.

How much is it for a 2 or 3 day course plus theory test??? Regardless, i'm gonna have to start saving my pennies! Razz

this is the price list for a motorcycle training school accross the road from me.....

cbt+8hrs training+test £225(your bike) £275(there bike)
cbt+10hrs training+test £260(your bike) £310(there bike)
cbt+12hrs training+test £295(your bike) £345(there bike)

no training school can put you through the theory...you got to do that you self..

i just got this from the same school after passing my theory.

4hrs training+test on there bike (£160)

obviously prices change from school to school but they shouldnt change too much Smile

all the best Very Happy

You should be able to get it for around £400 all in - including hire of a bike, and the actual test. You'll get 2 x 4 hour lessons per day usually shared with one or two others.

i paid 375 for my course

it was
new CBT on gears first day
then two full days road riding, from 9-4 with a lunch break
then the final day riding till 3 then my test was at 3.30

failed first time, retest was another 75 quid for bike hire and test fees, and that was another day of training till 3, test at 3.30

passed, plus 10 quid per day for insurance in case you damage teh bikes, plus cost of lunch brings the total to just under 500

id been riding a moped for a year before hand

i would recommened elite motorcycle training if you are in london, i went to the training centre in wembley, which is 30 seconds walk from wembley park tube station, all the instructors were great fun and taught you well, cept 1, but i think he left, and overall i really enjoyed it

how hard is the test really? some people say its proper hard, other say its a walk in the park. Obviously some people will find it harder to do according to ability, but just generally speaking. Taking your test in a car you feel like your every move is being scrutinised, i know you cant compare that to CBT, but on my CBT I had so much freedom to a certain extent, the instructor can't see everything.

So, £500 all in? thing is, it'll cost more cos i'll just want a bigger bike as soon i *hopefully* pass!!

nothing they ask you to do is hard, but its the stress that fails most people, cos you concentrate so hard on one thing, forget to do another as a result, make a move deemed "dangerous" instand fail

like my first test i failed on one thing, a cross junction with traffic lights, that stupid offside to offside thing, it was deemed dangerous cos i obstructed my view, and thus failed

but you wont fail a second time, unless youve had no training or you get a bastard tester, mine was a bastard, and it doesnt make it any easier, a friendly tester can put you at ease, one who enjoys being an arsehole just adds to the stress

I found the test easy, because I knew exactly what to do. The only reason I got 4 minors is because I panicked at some points

check the highway code mate, its the procedure for turning right at a junction when an opposite car is also turning to their right

its just a gay rule, that needs learning, that i forgot, my fault and i accept why i failed, its just annoying

Erm, is this a restriced a licence? or DAS?...DAS is usually a little more expensive. Also, the training school that I went to offered free retakes on the restriced licence (but not on DAS Sad).

it's not really gay though it's just how you're supposed to negotiate that kind of junction, same as the rules of a roundabout. The person who is turning at the same time as you will be expecting you to go round the back of him and if you dont....BANG straight into the front of his car. Also because we drive on the left negotiating a turn like that as you attempted would mean you're effectively blocking each others exit lanes.

IMO the test is simple as long as you've had a couple of hours beforehand with an instructor taking you through all the requirements. Just a case of driving safely, taking junctions properly and without constant hesitation, doing your lifesavers and having good control of the bike (u-turn/e-stop). Like Goose says, it's mainly nerves that cause ppl to lose it during the test and do something silly, practice by yourself and with other ppl until you feel confident about your own riding skill....then you're ready.

then pass, forget it all, and learn how to ride "properly" Twisted Evil

[EDIT] and what i meant by calling it a gay rule phoen, is that if i was riding anything more than a 125, which i am Very Happy, i will be clear of the junction and on my selected exit road, before any of the other cars have had a chance to really go anywhere, hence im rarely gonna find myself in a situation where i need to bother with that rule

if i had burned off like this during the test it would have been deemed dangerous through lack of observation etc, but in real life on a modern bike, it really doesnt seem to affect me to much

btw mike, ignore the crap in this post till youve passed mate Smile

new CBT on gears first day

Because I only have experience on a moped, do you think I will have to do a lesson or summit before I do my cbt?

Also is it possible to get to a pass standard on only a three day course?
i.e. no experience before hand.

Fair enough, it's just that people say you should know clutch control and gears before you go to one.

I live next to Elite school in Wembley but I was thinking of going back to Scotland to do the DAS as itr seems to be quite a bit cheaper (and the roads and traffic are much nicer if the weather holds out).

Is there any problem with doing the test nowhere near where your license is registered? ie registered London, test Dundee?

Excellent! Very Happy I wish I was riding back in Scotland. Back home I could be in the countryside in 5mins, some great roads around there. Here in London I never feel like I can escape the built up areas, and the cars. Sad

No problem at all - I did my DAS in Aberdeen so I could combine the week off work with seeing my mates & my folks up there. It was quite chilled that way, made the whole thing into a holiday.

Only thing to be wary of is, if you fail, you've got 3 weeks or so before you can sit it again - if you want to sit it on the test route you spent all your time learning, it means another trip up north.
