Looks like I need to refurb my Gt250 master cylinder . If you know the 70s (Tokico?) master cylinder it has an irritating circlip set deep inside the lever side cavity that also corrodes making it a bastard to get out - even if you have the right pliers.

Tips on removal gratefully received otherwise I may bludgeon it out by knocking the piston through form the outlet end, with a punch.

Is that the internal circlip with lugs and holes for circlip pliers?

If so I'd be inclined to warm the whole job up and then let it cool a few times, then wiggle the clip's ends with a pointed thing before getting the pliers on it.

Surely if you bash the thing out, it'll shag (at least) the cylinder?

Doing a full refurb with new piston?

Hot (near boiling) saturated alum solution will dissolve steel but not aluminium.

That's the fella.. Yep - heat and wiggle will come first.

Bashing might just work. I think my brother did this once as he didn't know the clip was in there Shocked ..

I think it deforms just enough to lose its hold - not ideal though more of a last resort.

Alum.. final last resort maybe.. Smile

You can probably get better leverage with a pointy thing through one of the holes especially if you've a pellet or strip of some soft stuff to put in the hole as a fulcrum (small strip of aluminium sheetbent into a circlip shape and pushed into the bore?) than you can with pliers, to get the thing started. "Good luck have fun" whatever you do Smile

'tis done Smile .

wasn't too bad bad after I got my +2 specs on and had the darn thing out in bright sunlight. Thanks for all the tips.

Pointy thing was indeed needed (bradawl) to 'drill' through the crap/rust in the circlip hole then lever - also some cheap picks I remembered i had.

Cheers

Might be a good idea to properly protect that circlip somehow for next time it needs removing? I'm thinking a simple smear with the correct lube or something?

They have a rubber boot over them when new. Probably long gone.
