Hey there,
As I only need my gear to last 1 hour of downpours (at which point it leaks), and dry enough to make the trip back, and can't afford gore-tex gear, I'm on the hunt for waterproofs again.
I've tried suits, doesn't work too well for me, so off to a 2 piece, but priority is trousers.
What I want to ask is if there is much of a difference between the dozens of £20-30 such as found here https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/775
Although I'm so confused by these...so...many...options!
And the same thing, but with goretex, such as these ugly things
https://www.militarykit.com/products/british-army-mtp-goretex-waterproof-trousers?variant=20874139074618
Saw a guy with them this morning and he said they're 100% dry, another plus is the full length zip, I might use these off the bike too.
If at least they were green like these I'd go for them
https://www.militarykit.com/products/highlander-tempest-dpm-camouflage-waterproof-trousers?variant=7535470149690
But these aren't goretex so might be worse than the moto ones?
What are your experiences? I'm quite thorn ____________________

Army issue MTP gore-tex for the win.
I'm rocking them. The zips are fine.
Currently using a Lidl PVC overjacket with the army torusers which is faultless.
Sealskinz knee-length socks with merino lining is like wearing wellie boots under your bike gear. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

The army ones seem cheap because they are sold off surplus (grade 1 means used but very good, probably wasn't actually issued just sat on a stores shelf till declared surplus and sold/stolen). |
Indeed. As were mine from my locker in the squadron hangar at RAF Gutersloh.

Flexothane is OK. I wear it every day at work. The surface waterproofing has a tendancy to crack and start peeling off after a while. More so if it's flapping about a lot.
Seams are fairly waterproof, I wouldn't necessarily be totally confident about coming away with dry balls after sitting in a pool of water in them for a while.
The main downside is that the lining is pretty absorbent so if you do get the inside of them wet, they take ages to dry. I wear them over wellies and water can track up the legs. I think this would be worse if they were flapping about over bike boots because they kind of "seal" against the wellies. I think they would do a lot of flapping and riding up on a bike. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen.
