Hi,

I have a CBF1000 with an aftermarket exhaust (OEM header pipes > aftermarket link pipes > aftermarket exhaust). Aftermarket link pipe has no drain hole and would like to drill one to prevent the amount of condensation / white smoke build up upon start ups and to prevent rusting as the weather continues to decline.

Have small drill bit, drill and OEM pipes (if anything goes wrong).

Am aware:

> Note position of OEM drain hole and ensure is done is as close to the original position as possible.

> Should only be a very small hole (a few mm wide).

Anything else to be aware of/advice to give?

Simple as propping the bike on a stand (more room underneath to drill) and get to work?

Link pipe image clicky.

Only ever seen drain holes in cans, would your proposed hole be directly inline with the back tyre?

Ah, I see, good job I didn't just "go at it."

Seems my mistake as to the location as I hadn't yet looked at the OEM ones before posting, or since, so assumed it would be on the link pipe as lower point (ie: water drains downwards).

Even though its only a cheap can I'd rather not butcher it by drilling into it.

So I guess the question becomes is there a risk of internal rusting on the pipe/connector pipe and, most importantly, the OEM donwpipes due to there not being a drain hole?

As I say I've got the OEM pipes so am not bothered about the aftermarket ones (refit OEM when sell) but would rather not damage the OEM header-pipes internally.

Bikes ridden fairly regularly so isn't sitting after a wet ride for an extended period of time.

If you're that worried, carry a bung to put in the end can for when you park it up.

Not overly worried just a little D.I.Y task I wanted to seek advice on / get information around before doing anything and or nothing. Read somewhere they can rot from the inside out if one isn't present so figured I'd ask to prevent if that was the case.

I've had at look at the OEM cans now and can see its a tiny hole at the bottom of the underside of the pipe. Thumbs Up

Probably do nothing for now.. can't see it being a major issue.

Many thanks all. Thumbs Up

It’ll backfire like buggery.

My YZF750 backfires if the link pipe to the silencer is slightly loose or there’s a slight air leak at the engine side joint.

My 929 had an ART can with a hole in the mid-pipe, didn't hear a peep out of it due to the hole. Made naff-all difference though, still had a plume of fog out the back when starting on a cold/damp day Laughing
