 |

Hi Guys,
Ive owned a beautiful SH125 for 10 years literally used everyday and serviced by me, I know it inside out, love the bike as second bike and my run around.
In the early hours I hear some banging noise, I just thought it was foxes or cats in the bins which is normal. Anyway parent comes home and says wheres you scooter/// heart sinks. Its been nicked. suprisingly left my 6Rninja next to it (heavily chained and covered)
I go out to look immediately, while on phone to cops, I saw a man jogging away from me, immediately shouted at him and run towards him, he took off into some garden meanwhile im yelling down the phone at cops because they had 3 units in the area, they had just located the scooter! So 2mins later they got to me and i showed them where he went, they sent in a dog but didnt find the bastard
So the Sgt walked me to by scoot which has the front end smashed up, steering lock bust, ig barrel screwdrivered really badly, fairings mashed up... they left their helmet and tools inc a hammer on the floor near the bike...
Anyway cop says to me crime scene investigators wont come out this time of night to take prints so I have to push it back to my house 200m away. or have it recovered which incurs a fee...
I said I dont wna touch it with my hands, so he gave me gloves to wear and I pushed it home...
Now, Ive been biking for 13 years now and never had a bike stolen, so wnt to really get upto speed on what next...ie how I play this out with the insurers etc.
The bike is worth approx 800-1000.. I would say its repairable but will be expensive considering steering lock, barrel, multiple fairings, mirrors, paint work etc..
What is likely to happen here? will i pay an excess and they give me market value for the bike, or does it become complicated because even though it was stolen, it was found within an hour and now back on my drive, albeit mashed up and not rideable till fixed? Am with Hastings.
Any advice would be great.
Cheers |

Thanks for advice guys.
I think the overall advice here is not to attempt to claim as effect on my future policies will be effected ?
Will the bike come up on a HPI check as stolen or stolen recovered? Or will that only happen if insurers are told ...
I’ve not changed a barrel before but will this do https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Ignition-Switch-Barrel-seat-lock-SH125-SH150-2005-2006-2007-2008-2009-2010/222171649268?hash=item33ba7654f4:g:liQAAOSwB4NWvKVI
I’m guessing it houses the steering lock pins to ?
At the moment I don’t have full freedom of movement on the steering. It goes full to the right but only about 20-30 degree left then jams with no obvious obstruction. It that likely to be the pins from the steering lock or something else. ? |

What was your parent doing in 'the small hours' - out and about?
How come the 'suspect' was still wandering about by the time you were informed got dressed etc.. and why didn't he take his helmet with him? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750, SL1000

"cop says to me crime scene investigators wont come out this time of night"
or any other feckin night (or day) for a stolen bike/scoot.
As above, just fix it and get better security
If Ins co did get involved they'd probably Cat N it on pictures alone
A guy I know had his Cat C'd on pics alone last year ____________________ bikers smell of wee |

East European crims lifting bikes into vans I can understand: money to be made from the parts. But what value is there in a smashed up scooter?
The one I found for its owner recently was in a similar state "kids go joy riding on them" commented the PCSO. "Joy" apparently has an entirely different meaning these days ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

To be fair there are plenty of CCTV clips and social media uploads of kids larking about on housing estates on (presumably) stolen scooters.
Having driven/ridden push bikes, eBikes - both legal and overpowered, scooters, motor bikes, cars, vans, speed boats, tractors, 4x4 off roaders, APCs... quite a few things really Anyhoo, "least joy award" definitely goes to the scooter!
It was more a point about how rock-bottom you'd have to be for such a vehicle to be entertaining. ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
