Please help with this - dads car, it is essential for him as a carer for my uncle and gran who are both seriously Ill, 30 miles away. It was recently serviced before.andnafter this problem started.

Wont run. I suspect it has an intermittent wiring fault. RAC guy claims its the crank angle sensor, new replacement did not help. When fault it does not try to start, turns over freely. It often takes about 5 seconds to fire up but often instant.

I have checked all visible connectors for corrosion and sprayed with wd40. It has HT cables which I find odd for a 12year old car. I will pull the plugs and check them next.

Have you connected an OBI reader to it?

Try changing the key fob battery as it may not be disabling the immobiliser
Check fuses
Open check clean all related connectors
I seriously doubt all 4 plugs and/or HT leads would fail at the same time
is it carb or FI?

Crank sensors have been know to be faulty from new I believe. May be worth trying another. Not too dear I think.

On the crank sensor is an "o" ring which makes the sensor sit too high causing it to misread the crank position , remove and refit sensor

That is interesting as the RAC guy tried a new sensor, didnt help so he put the old back, but seems with two oring seals. Garage has since refit I assume with just one.

It started today. Second try. I really think it is immobiliser as light went off just as it fired.

The reason any o rings are removed is to get the sensor closer to the flywheel , a kia dealer told me this trick, the o ring is just to stop the ingress of crap
