As per the title I tried to jump my GSXR 750 k1 off my other bike but my leads touched together and after a few sparks my bike is dead.

I have checked the 30 amp fuse that is fine and the bike will try turn over by bridging the black and red terminal.

Where to look next? Green plug on the left side?

I have no idea about electrics any help will be greatly appreciated.

Wasn't it dead before you started? Otherwise, why were you trying to jump it?

What were the leads connected to at the time of the incident and which end did you short-out (donor bike or recipient)?

There are a whole load of other fuses which may be worth a check too.

No the bike was just fine it didn't quite have enough power in the battery to start it. Now it's totally dead other than what I stated. I'm just wondering where to look next for power issues

I'd lead with the fuse box.

Just read the last message in full. Great thanks. I can see 8 other fuses on the right side of the bike near the handle bar. Are there any more?

Is it fuel injected? Do you hear the fuel pump after you turn the key on?

Yes it's fuel injected. I'm not with the bike now but I'm sure I couldn't

Well, that's not good. Check all the fuses and hope you didn't burn the ECU. I do believe the fuel pump has to have its own relay and fuse, so I would start there. I take it the START button does nothing at the moment, right? Maybe the ECU won't engage the starter without the fuel pump running. It'd be also good if we knew whether the ignition still produces sparks.

Thanks for the reply. Bridged the starter relay with an old spanner it tried to start the bike. I will try find where the ECU fuse is. I'm not sure where all the fuses are. I will go to the bike now

When you bridge the starter relay you by-pass every electrical system on the bike. This only tells us the starter works and the battery is good enough to spin it.

Just wondering, do you get any power at all to the bike when the key is in the ON position? Do the lights work? IF there is no power, whatsoever, the main fues must be at fault.

Checking the ECU requires a skilled electrician/engineer. The easiest way of checking whether it works is to replace the unit with a working one.

Are you sure the kill switch is in the ON (run) possition? Do you hold the clutch in when starting the engine? Suzuki bikes tend to have that, the clutch in thing.

I know these things sound obvious, but once upon a time, I forgot about the killswitch (my first bike with such killswitch) and I couldn't start the engine for more than half an hour, I even tried to push start it, several times. Embarassed

So I guess my next question is what would be the symptoms of a fried rectifier? I just thought that it just wouldn't charge the battery.

So if it's the ECU would it be likely to have fried the rectifier also?

Right so my 3rd question is could I just pug in a new ECU?

Thanks

Going back to that, how exactly did the "leads touch together" and where were the sparks from?

Did you connect to your bike, and short the leads at the other end, short your battery/the other battery to the frame, or connect something the wrong way around, disconnect your battery, or what? Did you connect to the battery of your bike, or a lead to an earth on the bike, or what did happen, as you best remember it?

I was using quite heavy duty leads over to my other bike. It was a bit if a struggle to keep them on whilst trying to pull the clutch and start it. The positive lead moved and touched the negative. A fair few sparks then zero power other than the neutral light. No lights at all other than that

The sparks seem to come from just where the leads touched. But incidentally I think that's above the ECU

When you bridged the starter relay, did you use the terminals there somehow, or bridge from the battery to the starter side of the relay, or the starter motor? I have no idea what is positioned where on your bike, you see.

Oh, OK. There may be another fuse to check (10A, although I can't see how shorting the battery terminals should blow a fuse...):
