Another Dodgy Chinese 125

Hey up folks. While lockdown is in place I thought I have a go at fixing the misses HN125-8

The electrics seem a bit screwy, as I have either no spark or such a tiny spark you can barely see it. so far I have

New plug
New Coil
Tested loom for continuity
Get fuel to the engine
have good compression

I have tested the diode next to the rectifier, and it is reading ok in both directions, so I assume this is ok?

There are a few nicks in the stator wiring, Would this be a cause of the issues?

How can I test the stator and pickup? a mate says these can cause the same issue.

The diode seems to be part of the clutch switch circuit according to this diagram.

Yes, a failing stator can cause this. You normally test a stator by measuring resistance between the wires coming from it. You'd need a manual for the values though.

The pick up coil by the stator could also cause this. Sometimes is can be a lose wire on it, or it's moved in it's slot, if it has adjustment for static timing.

Not sure I trust that diagram as that shows a DC powered CDI ignition
not an AC powered type
An AC powered type would have a source coil at the stator

Ebay says this thing below is an Hn125-8 stator and you can see the source coil at the top and the black box to the left is the pulser

A stator that conformed to your diagram would only have the charge coils and pulser


You need to establish what it is you have before you can start to debug it

AC source coils usually have a resistance of say 200-400 ohms

I have taken the stator off, and it looks the same as that, with 300 ohms.

The wires were nicked and showing the core on 3, I taped them all up.

I've rubbed the frame down, and put the original coil on and nothing else other than cdi, and its now running off the kickstart.

I am going to had each electrical part back and see if it falls over again.
