Lexmoto 125 completely dead?

Hi guys,

I've taken my Lexmoto out of storage today only to discover its completely dead, no power whatsoever, nothing is happening, no light, no clicking sound with the starter switch.

I've already looked at the kill switch, checked the battery with a multimeter, checked for corrosion on the terminals themselves, followed the wire to the ignition barrel and tested for output witch was also fine and checked the fuse.

I really can't put my finger on what the issue is, if it was the starter motor the lights on the clock would still illuminate, thinking it might be something the do with corrosion in the wiring itself?

any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there,

Have you tried shorting the starter relay, this basically proves if it’s a battery or an electrical fault.

Basically you’re connecting the battery straight to the starter motor and seeing if it turns. You do this by bridging the two terminals on the relay with a piece of wire. ( don’t do it with a screw driver, I’ve melted a few of them doing that)

If it doesn’t turn over then either the battery looks good on the multimeter but doesn’t have juice enough to turn it over

Or it’s a starter motor problem such as a bad earth, seized motor etc

If it does turn over it’s a wiring fault somewhere or it’s more than likely that the starter relay has went.

Is there another fuse box somewhere with smaller fuses for lights, indicators, horn etc in addition to the one main one? I wouldn't be looking at the starter motor circuitry if nothing else works... Have you a bad earth somewhere? Can you check conductivity between the part that would connect to the battery and a frame rail? My Monster has a small lead that connects the negative terminal of the battery purely to the frame. It's simply bolted on, if that connection isn't good you won't get a circuit on any system?

As the other guys have said look for a fuse first. In the main fuse holder or on the starter relay. Some bikes have a 30a one the relay which can pop.

Thanks for your help guys, it turned out to be the Regulator wires, they were so corroded that they just fell off when I inspected them. When I stripped the earth wire to make a new connection the copper was as dark as a bankers soul.
