well im just about to get my restrictors out tomorrow, but browsing on ebay and i came across a derestrictor and it says it will allow my bike to go over 180kmh, so is there already a standard restrictor in there? ive got a cbr400, and are they worth the pennies? where can i get a new one from or is it not worth getting a new one. also are they easy to fit?
cheers
phill

As far as I was aware you just have to remove the plates from between your carbs and the engine (inlet ports). The carbs may also require rejetting though but I'm not sure.

Its worth checking for the restriction washers firstly and if they aren't there, then buy the item, as I believe the cbr400 is derestricted differently (in some electronic form Confused)

In short....

When the speedo needle hits 180kmph it passes through a little light-gate/similar that results in a message being sent to the CDI telling it to cut two cylinders. It's like hitting a brick wall.

Some bikes have had this disabled by bending back a tab in the speedo, some have plug-in boxes behind the speedo, some have plugin boxes going into the CDI. You can also get around it with a kph >mph converter, or by just disconnecting the speedo cable.

Don't try to blindly pull the wire out as it'll result in the bike misfiring above 5,000rpm (crude anti-tampering idea).
