If you stuff up the end of the silencer with a crumpled piece of rag or something, you will be able to hear the noise better. you will also be able to track down whatever is whirring by using a listening stick, AKA "engine stethescope". A long screwdriver or a long piece of kindling/wooden spoon would do. |

You never know if you might be causing more damage, or if it might suddenly seize or some important component catastrophically fail, breaking other things on its way. What have you inspected and checked? Did you do the stethoscope thing and find out where the noise is coming from? What did the oil look like in the drain pan? Bits of metal in it? Can you drop the oil filter, cut it open and look at that for signs of debris? Have you checked the timing? Compression reading? From what you're saying and the account you've given, it was starved of oil and now the engine is toast. And it sounds like rod knock, to my inexpert ear. In any case, you need to figure it out before you ride it again. |
the oil looked good, didn't find any bits of metal in it. if it's going to be an expensive fix then I might as well continue to ride it. The cbf125 doesn't have an oil filter, it has an internal oil strainer which I didn't not take apart. The engine doesn't seem like it's toast because it has power, but it's just that noise. And no I haven't checked the timing and compression. |
