my ksr moto worx is only giving me about 40 mpg

it should be about 100 mpg. the exhaust smells a little bit rich, but i havent up-jetted it or anything. i also adjusted the air screw correctly, until it was running at its best. everything else is standard on the bike apart from a k&n filter and a sports exhaust. what could be the problem?

Are you first owner? If not, someone has probably fiddled with the carb.

Still, to get the fuel burn that bad if you have to be painfully rich or just leaking.

I'm assuming this is some kind of Chinese 125.

Running with the choke on? (common for people to get the choke on/off positions wrong on CG125 type carbs)

In this very sunny weather, evaporation/expansion can be a problem too. I once had a bike that would empty the tank if you left it in direct sunlight with the fuel on. The fuel in the float bowl expanded with the heat then some trickled out of the overflow, then cooler fuel from the tank ran in and filled it again, it expanded, a little ran out, more replaced it.

Took me ages to notice. I sat and watched it and you'd see the fuel ooze out of the overflow then hear a slight rattle as the needle valve trickled more in then shut. The solution was to turn the fuel off when you parked it.

It`s very rare that a float causes an overflow, only when is does not float.
Adjusting it correctly until it stopped leaking suggests a float needle valve seating problem, it sounds like you are leaking fuel behind you when riding.

But it could be carburetting poorly due to an incorrect float height.

At an absolute guess, the sprung pin on your needle valve is stuck in.

anyway ive bought a fuel filter for it as it had one on the original bike, so that might help fuel consumption
