Sorry Laura, have you looked all around the area where they took your CBR? It'd be the first place I'd look.

Commiserations Laura.

I remember the first time I had a bike stolen - I was about 17 and naive. It was nicked from the town centre and when I discovered it missing I ran up to the police station and pushed in in front of everyone to report it, expecting them to immediately dash out and start looking for it, closing all the roads and scrambling the helicopters !

Of course they weren't interested and made me sit and wait in the queue, and then took my details according to procedure. All I could think was that the bike was getting further away as we spoke.

I later complained to the police (!) and made some suggestions to them. I told them that if they placed an attractive bike in the town centre and watched it, eventually it would get nicked and they would catch the thieves red handed. They told me this was illegal (entrapment) I also suggested that they should visit known motorcycle thieves and search them. That suggestion was rejected too !

When your bike is stolen, you are expected to just lie down and accept it. The police should take motorcycle theft more seriously than they do, given that most stolen bikes are never recovered.

The thieves have a lot to answer for. Theft puts your insurance up, leaves you without transport and causes you massive inconvenience. Are they ever caught - does anyone know of any convictions of bike thieves ?

Very sorry to hear your news. Just to agree with everyone else, when my GPZ and RXS100 were taken, the little chav's dumped it nearby (usually a park) first, then picked it up later on. Worth a good check of any places.

Once again, a very shitty thing to happen, I wish people could try earning something for themselves, instead of feeling the need to take someone elses hard earned pride and joy.

Is that really what entrapment is? I thought it had to be more blatant. Surely that is the easiest way to catch the teams that tour about in vans just lifting the bikes into the back? I don't get it. Evil or Very Mad

Entrapment who gives a fuck, if someone tries to nick the bike then they are stealing cunts who should be locked up, entrapment or not who cares.. why can they do suvellance (sp) on criminals, drug dealers etc then nick them when they can't park a nice bike up and wait for it to be nicked.. same thing surely?!!

That is not entrapment. It would be entrapment if they were to leave the keys in the bike. If the bike was secured in the normal fashion it would simply be a sting operation. They already use these successfully around Manchester for cars.

To clarify, another example of entrapment would be to break the window of the car and leave a handbag on display. If the car was locked and secured, it would be a sting. The idea of a sting is that you are not tempting someone who had not considered committing the crime.

Policeman should really know the difference.

Next time get an alarm as it will act as a deterrent to little brats and thiefs plus get a chain to increase the difficulty of nicking it with steering lock or leave it in first gear to prevent them walking the bike away.
