Posted: 11:12 - 12 Jan 2021 Post subject: Laptop battery refurbishment companies? |
|
|
Drawing a surprisingly fruitless google search.
I have an ultrasound scanner at work, it's portable but the battery pack is totally shot, to the point it can only be used plugged in and if you want to move it from one room to another, you have to shut it down and restart it again.
To all intents and purposes it's a glorified laptop with some very specialised inputs. The things are very expensive but I doubt the battery pack will be anything particularly special. May even be straight nickel hydride AAs in there.
Thing is, due to the £££££ aspect, I'm not poking abut in there. Can anyone recommend a company who can re-cell/refurbish a battery pack? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I've used this company to replace the cells in a shot fluke network tester.
https://toolbatteriesrepair.co.uk/
The tester was no longer supported by Fluke and a replacement pack was £300 when they did support it.
The refurb cost was £60 or thereabouts. ____________________ Current bike: Honda ST1100 |

I'm going to have a closer look tomorrow to see what tyoe it is. I do know a replacement battery was unobtainable from the maufacturer because others of my colleagues have tried before now.
The UPS idea is a neat one. Thinking outside the box. While the scanner is portable, it's kept on a trolley so a UPS would be no problem to attach. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Looks like this place has the ability to rebuild
a battery pack.
https://www.countybattery.co.uk/battery-pack-rebuilding/battery-pack-repair-rebuilding/
The pic shows them spot welding tags on batteries which is the trickiest bit
if you haven't got the kit.
They probably do power tool packs mostly but not exclusively.
Just seen the prices......
they go from around £50 to bend over
No idea what you have but larger pack repair can get pretty eye watering ____________________ bikers smell of wee |

Depends on what you want to weld but those ghetto spot welders are probably only good for very thin nickel. This is what they use in the factories...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUNKCO-1-5KW-737G-Spot-Welder-Battery-Spot-Welding-LED-Light-for-18650-Battery/123750214835
But to be fair it depends on your needs. Welding up 10S3P or bigger ebike batteries you really want to chew through the work. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

There is no danger I'm doing it myself. I used five pound signs for a reason (It didn't cost that because we got it second hand but it would cost that to replace). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink.
