Hi, I have four pieces of securing plastic strips which have holes for a nut and bolt to go through to secure a top box onto a motorcycle frame.
My problem is they are all too thick by 2-3mm and I need to sand them all down evenly and exactly together so need a sanding machine

It's such a small 2 minute job for such small items that I don't want to hire heavy machinery to come to my place. Definitely not gonna buy one for a one off- is there somewhere/someone/ a business type with a sanding machine that I can pay to get this job completed for me please?
I'm in West London

Can't you buy a cheap 4.5" angle grinder for twenty quid on ebay and do it yourself.
Or stick your head in an ' under the arches' type garage ( not a main dealer obviously) and ask , it wouldn't take them 5 minutes...

Too big to rasp or hand file away? Plastic is easy to wear down with plain old hand tools.

You could put a piece of rough sand paper on a flat surface and rub the plastic over it in a figure of 8 pattern.

Thanks everyone, positive rating given. Ill try a cheap second hand, light one or an angle grinder. I just thought the industrial one would make it perfect or more even so the box would be perfectly aligned since im not the most mechanically inclined person.

I tend to agree - there must be a simpler solution to this fixing problem.

That is a flat file, rough or middle by the look, double cut. It might or might not be a good quality file. I tend to doubt it is. Would it do the job? The OP has only said he's got "plastic strips which have holes for a nut and bolt to go through" and says "they are all too thick by 2-3mm and I need to sand them all down evenly and exactly together". There is no indication of what the "plastic" is, but it might be quite resistent to sanding or filing. Perhaps they coulld be planed. There isn't even a picture. Might be best off to attack the strips with an old decorator's paraffin blowtorch, then get some large person to sit on them. Who knows. I don't.

I don't know. It shows promise (edit: of quality), because it may be that there's a makers' name on it, and the tang seems to have been softened. It looks like a single cut file, but it's hard to say what it is from the image. Are you sure it's a bastard? Anyway, I bet it's well 'ard.

Perhaps the OP could use a planer & thicknesser?

'I have four pieces of securing plastic strips'

I was thinking just buy or forage materials and make thinner strips. Rolling Eyes

Tangs are soft.
