I`m trying to restore a barn find and have removed the panels drained and renewed the old fuel and 2 stroke running oil.
Put a brand new spark plug in which produces a good spark.

Charged the battery but when it turns over it doesn`t sound as if its gonna start at all.
I now want to check if fuel is getting to the carb but can`t find from reading everything how to do that.

At 74 I thought I had all the patience needed but I now have my doubts.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN

STAY SAFE

For a bike that's not starting and been left a while first thing to do would be clean the carb out.

You could take the spark plug out and put your finger over the hole and crank the engine. Feel for compression. If you have compression, dribble a bit of fuel into the cylinder, put the spark plug back in and turn it over and see if it fires.

Make sure the carburetor is getting fuel. I think your AY50 has a vacuum controlled fuel cock. Years in the barn could have caused it to freeze in the closed position. When you remove the carburetor, check for fuel in the line. If none, crank the engine over with the fuel line removed from the carburetor; fuel should dribble out of the line. If not, the fuel cock is suspect.

Great help from most members.
However I will just ask for constructive help. Morons can keep their advice like a recent post to themselves.
Stay safe.....even to morons

Quite - this isn't like other forums. You have to earn your spurs. Using normal font and omit the 'stay safe' bit will help. Respect for tearing down a bike at 74 even if it is a 'ped.

An alternate fuel source might facilitate testing, bypassing the tank and fuel cock altogether. You can attach a barbed fitting to a can or bottle. Use RTV silicone or the like, and attach a fuel hose from your makeshift container to the carburetor inlet. Add fuel. If the engine starts on the alternate source, problem in tank or fuel cock. If engine does not start, problem likely in the carburetor or ignition system (assuming good compression).
