Hello there!

I have absolutely fallen in love with the BSA M20, that motorcycle has something unique.

After searching through all the well-known brand catalogs and some less-known motorcycle shops, I still haven't found a model that has that long shape, sit height, handlebar height, and space in the rear mudguard for saddlebags and utility that the M20's got.

The closest thing I have found are, funny enough, the Ural models, but they come with a sidecar and are notoriously unreliable. I asked this same question on my flight-sim forum, and they sent me looking for the W800, the Bonneville Bobber, and the CCM Spitfires, but none of those really hit the mark.

Appreciate the help! Please find a picture of the M20 I'm talking about attached to this post.

Cheers!

Another vote for the Bullet Thumbs Up There may be other retro knock-offs out there but Enfield has the numbers and more importantly the parts and support to keep it going.

Royal Enfield Bullet 350 or 500. If you want the proper old fashioned feeling then a pre-unit (pre 2009), it's an old Brit bike the Indians forgot to stop making Laughing , gear shifter on right, rear brake on left, shift pattern 1 up, 3 down, interesting brakes. Don't cost the earth to buy and parts are plentiful.

If you want old looking without the actual old features then a Royal Enfield Bullet (or classic, same bike different cosmetics), post 2009. These have a Unit construction engine, fuel injection, brakes that brake, shifter and rear brake in normal place and a 5 speed box that has a "normal" shift pattern. It's still an aircooled pushrod single though so feels closer when riding to an older Enfield than any modern big single.

You can actually buy a hard tail rear and a girder front to make a pre-unit look fairly similar to that pic of a BSA.

Thanks for the help!

It seems like the RE Classic 500 really fits the bill.

Apart from getting a hardtail rear and a girder front, how would you go about installing a saddlebag rack on top of/around the rear mudguard?

If you really want to girder the front and hard tail the rear then you want a pre-unit bullet not the newer Unit construction engined, Classic 500.

Here is where you buy most parts https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/

They will sell you an entire bolt on frame to hard tail the rear
https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/rigid

There's loads of racks, pannier rails you can buy and bolt on.

For a girder front end I'm not sure where you'd go shopping, they do exist though.

Is this bike for show or riding? If you plan to ride it, I'd keep the front forks and rear suspension. Still going to look period but you'll be able to keep your spine intact!

It would certainly be for riding.

What I am thinking of is:

1. Buy a Classic 500 (post-2009).

2. Bolt on a rack on the rear.

3. Leave it as is after that and enjoy the bike Smile.

Why not go full retard and get a pre-unit enfield bullet and fit a Hitchcocks "ridgid bullet" kit for authentic 1940's style piles and lumbar spine compression?

One of the Chinese 125 modifiers was knocking out CG125 clones that looked like pre-war BSAs. Even flat tankers. Black Douglas?

What do you think of the Yamaha SCR950?

Any idea on how to make it look a bit more "post-war" and less modern?

You could drill a tiny hole in the sump plug so it drips oil everywhere it's parked?

They can be good. I'm not sure why you think they're "notoriously unreliable", they're just of an age, like the M20, which they are probably an improvement on. You can also ride them without a sidecar attached, which is quite amusing.

A Ural with a sidecar, two wheel drive and a reverse gear. With a machine-gun mounted on the sidecar,

One of my bucket list bikes. Thumbs Up
