Hi all,

Got the engine light on and the speedo is not working but the bike rides ok, any ideas what's going on?

It is a 2016 model without digital dash.

I noticed it was a little wet, is that likely to be the issue? I cleaned it but still same.

possibly .. but given you dried it maybe not .. afraid its a multi meter job to check the resistance readings .. or maybe the magnet or ring has dropped off .. you`ll need a service manual for the reading values and exactly how to do it .. failing that .. take to dealer... you could take a punt and just buy a new unit to replace the sender .. maybe work .. maybe not..

When you turn the key on does the speedo needle move from 0 to max then back to 0?

It has three wires going to the speed sensor so it looks like it has a hall effect sensor. In that case you should have 12V between Black/White and Green/Black. If not you probably have a broken black/white or green/black wire.

If you have 12V between Black/White and Green/Black check between Pink/Green and Green/Black. You should see the meter switching as you turn the wheel slowly. The voltages could switch between 12V and 0V or 12V to 1V, or 5V to 1V etc but whatever the voltages are they should switch from one to the other as you turn the wheel slowly.

If you have all that at the sensor you would have to check on the Pink/Green at the back of the instrument panel you should see the voltage switching as you slowly turn the wheel.

Yeah the needle 'sweeps' up then back again.

I'll be taking a look tomorrow with my multimeter in hand, just got to take a few panels off and hope for the best! hoping i don't have to go near the instrument panel as ive heard it's a pita to gain access to.

Will update as and when.

Thanks all for the help so far.
