PostPosted: 16:40 - 06 Apr 2005    Post subject: Chain adjustment Help Reply with quote

I was doing some general maintenance on my bike and came to adjusting the chain. The problem I'm having is getting a nut undone. It's firmly wedged. I'm sure this is a common prob so any tips on how to loosen it up a bit?

Cheers Very Happy

Try tightening the nut first, sometimes this works on the most stubborn, I've had to do it to a couple of bolts on my gixxer, they loosened off quite nicely after that.

WD40 will also help, as will giveing it a firm tap with a hammer ideally a mallet on a sockett on the nut.. be carefull not to overdo it though because you can imagine what heppens if you do!

Get yourself a tube of copper slip and apply liberaly allong the threads, this will stop it happening next time you want to adjust it Very Happy

If the nut/bolt is a fairly big one then i tend to put a ring spanner on it and then get the afformentioned mallet and knockeing it at the other end of the spanner to turn it, 99% of the time works but you need space and to do it carefully Smile

If you are using a small lever like a spanner or ratchet to undo the nut you may, or are suffering because of it. What you need is a 2ft long breaker bar or such like tool, get a bit of force behind it and off she should spin.
