Hey all,
I don't have any experience with bikes but i just finished putting together a Suzuki b100p.

I was wondering if the headlight and tail light should be on if the key is switched on, but the engine is not running. I haven't tried to run the engine yet, but just wanted to check if there are any electrical issues.
Currently, when I've got the key switched on, i can get the brake light to come on when i press the foot brake, but the tailight and headlight are not working. I'm not sure if they should be on, or only work when engine is running.

Thanks for your help,
Rob

Sounds normal to me for an old bike.
The rest should follow when the engine runs.

On the old 6 volt bikes the engine usually needs to be running for the headlight and tail light to work as these work off the magneto.

Yep normal. Lighting power (and ignition power in most cases) is not dependant on the battery. Many of that era of small bikes didn't even require a working battery to run. The only thing the ignition key did to prevent the spark plug from sparking was to earth the points and kill the spark, hence why they were so easy to steal, they just pulled the plug off the ignition switch and kicked it into life.

Hah! Don't I know it Smile Taking apart the DT today I discovered the reason the kill switch didn't work: just not connected. Not even a bullet connector on the end Rolling Eyes And yes, I kicked it over with no battery installed.

I think I might add an imobiliser alarm or hidden kill switch once I'm finished.

Most of the ppl on here hail from the Celtic nations where modesty and discretion are highly regarded. Willy waving your 600 mile barn find will not gain you any friends neither will thread-hijacking an old post.

It is possible that it has 600 miles on, if something broke so fundamentally in the first 600 miles that it wasn't worth repairing.

More likely it was stripped for "field work" as Americans are wont to do and it's the first time the clocks have been reattached in 50 years Laughing

Indeed, and I suspect the options will be that binary as is expected for "barn finds". It was either a lemon when new, or is knackered from years of use. Either way it will likely have quite a bit of monetary value from a small amount of work, but that is not the same as being something one would choose to keep.
