I have a Peugeot XPS 50 that I bought as a non runner scrap bike, I have now got it to pretty much MOT ready, however I must have over tightened the fairing and there is a drip of fuel now coming out of the tank at the thread of the faring thread.

I have looked high and low and can’t find another tank, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix?

Thanks

A lot would depend on the nature of the damage. Can you see the crack/hole? If it's a tiny pinhole, you might be able to melt it over with a soldering iron or drill it larger then pop/bond something in to plug it.

If it's a crack, you'll probably need to drill a stop-hole at the point of the crack to prevent it spreading further then either plastic weld or bond the split.

Pics of the damage would be good.

I can’t see the hole, it’s inside the thread if you know what I mean, I took the tank off an put it in water, with some air in the top and a tiny bubble of air came out so I know that’s where the issue is, I’ve tried with the solder iron but I don’t think I can get to the part that is leaking, will try again.

Definitely can’t see the damage it’s just hidden at the bottom of a thread. It’s a nightmare had the tank off so many times now trying to fix it!

Fill the hole with Petropatch and then ram the bolt in.

It takes a few minutes to start setting hard which gives time to poke in a little bit at a time to ensure a complete fill.

That's a Captive Nut.

Either set in the prastic as it's injection formed or it's a grommet style that thermo set after the tank is formed.
A petrol resistant sealant spunked down the hole should cure it.
I would PTFE thread tape the bolt and screw it in to displace the sealant before it sets. The tread tape should prevent the sealant bonding to the bolt and let you screw it back out without breaking the new seal.

It’s moulded to the tank, must only be a tiny hole as it only drips a little bit, but when I take it for the MOT it will probably drip out!

I’m not bothered about taking the fairings off while I own it so will try some sort of fuel proof sealant then screw the fairing on with ptfe tape, let it set and hope for the best before I put fuel in again!

If it's a bolt going in there maybe an alternative would be to use a stud instead with JB Weld in lieu of thread lock. You also be able to use a little epoxy around the exterior thread/tank area. Okay, so you'd have an ugly nut holding on the fairing but something tells me aesthetics aren't a priority Smile
