Superficially it doesn't look too bad considering most of them rusted away entirely by 2001

I wonder how much that will go for?
Despite the shabbiness it's surprisingly, actually all standard and original.
Windjammer( I think) fairing often fitted at that time for folk who actually rode them
further than Starbucks
Ditto the Rickman GRP top box, I had one of them too once
The rest is as it came from the dealer especially the front mudguard.
These often rotted away and were replaced by the ugly, cheap slab sided aftermarket ones
as originals were hard/expensive to come by.

It look like a B type with its reverse Comstars, oil drain plug in the forks and breather at the rear cover.
It has AC CDI ignition which could suffer from source coil and CDI box fails but this is easily updated
to a better system.
At 38K it should have a lot of life left in it but the cam chain will be well worn by now
if it hasn't been replaced.

Then theres the typical Honda rot.
They would often rot away at the lower frame near the engine mounts and the swinging arm plus the
mainstands would seize in and rot if neglected.
All fixable of course, if I had quid.......

they're easily worked on by the home mechanic
Info abounds on them and spares are mostly still easily found apart from some rocking horse shit
parts


It's possible it will end up as a cafe (puke) racer or someone will pour money into it and make
it an overblown (dont get it wet or dirty!!)garage queen.

They were always a working bike to me
Looked after, they'd be unfussy and reliably clock up many many miles.

It's a bit like a Kwak GT. A middle finger to fashion. "The world may change all around me, but I won't change", sort of thing. Hopefully people will one day understand that doing exactly what everyone else is doing (e.g. making iffy cafe racers) and then seeking the approval of peers and points for conformity just makes them blend into a sea of grey, and that what they did during their phase was pointless, wasteful and inauthentic. Bikes like the CX500 actually stand out more, and look more individual and unique, when they're unmolested and wear their history and epoque on their sleeve. Seeing one in the flesh in this condition is very rare and invites interest.

How does it stop? Is there an anchor in the top box for the rider to throw over the side when a set of traffic lights hoves into view?
