Depends on the controller.
You need to access the settings. Some controllers have an option to make an e-bike UK legal (15mph)... or not. That's more likely the two wires you're talking about so if you get "pulled" you can press the switch on the end of those two wires and make the ebike magically legal again. (Mostly for e-bicycles)
Then there's also sometimes a software restrictor in the controller settings. Some of these controllers are accessed by a (bluetooth?) mobile phone app and others have a built in config LED display and keypad buttons.
I had an ebike for a while. Then one of the 3.7v 18650 batteries in the pack decided to quit or dry joint or something. The charger would sit there floating the thing undervoltage for hours because it couldn't get a full charge in the pack due to that one knackered battery. Put me right off, it's something "they" don't tell you about. (Do you really want to be using metal tools directly on a battery putting out some serious voltage and amperage? There's going to be people killed by these things)
The other thing you have to watch is that they put a thousand pound battery with a one pound chinese BMS (Battery Management System) circuit board. Yeah, that'll end well. If that circuit board dies it can take the battery with it.
Sold the thing. Unless I can build an ebike out of cheap scrap then I can't be bothered with them. I also used to have a scrapper ebike I did my shopping on that was quite fun. It's a lot more fun to have an ebike you don't worry about than it is to have one with a thousand pound battery and thousand pound controller and thousand pound motor. It was 36v so I stuck an extra LA battery on and forced 48v into the controller and motor... thing went about 20mph. Definately a good thing for kids to learn on too.
This was the thing I was planning to buy years ago. It was £600 last time I looked -> https://www.evoscooters.co.uk/evomotion-e-f11-electric-moped-lithium.html
As for fuel costs. Take into account the battery getting tired over the years assuming nothing else goes wrong with it. If that needs replacing then that is the equivalent of a fuel cost. Lots of stuff on petrol bikes you can fix yourself for next to nothing but that battery is expensive blackbox magic you can't do much with. Some ebikes even have a contract where you start paying for your next battery before you've killed the one you've got.
The ultimate solution I see is using compressed hydrogen on combustibles. |

At the same time you're asking about derestricting an electric bike on a motorcycle forum that's historically anti electric. I think you'll have a lot more luck on another forum for these questions TBH. |
Either way it's no excuse for curt and rude replies, yes maybe have a search for a more appropriate forum for electric bikes , and to be honest i just saw Bike Chat Forum and asked a question lesson learnt.. |
Give it a rest now - you're starting to look silly. WD's initial response was flippant at worst not curt or rude. By the way why won't your daughter need to 'keep up with traffic' ? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

Fuck off Den. I'm sure there's another forum somewhere that will tell you what you want to hear so you can ignore the real advice you've been given. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles.
