Heyup folks,

Was just out for a ride, on my way home, chilly but summery, was going into a turn realtively sporty but not uncommonly fast,

Began applying front brake, then i was on the ground. There was no process what so ever, it was just: Riding, OnTheGround.

I banged into the ground and slid along and turned onto my back, thinking "oh fuck ive fallen off", then realised i was still sliding and was feeling nasty friction in various places.

Black smoke was pouring out of the bike and it was sliding along the road quite quickly.

As you can see my jeans fell to pieces but my bike pants underneath didnt. My jacket split at the seams in several locations (which answers my earlier thread about the quality of ebay jackets) but it did infact save me from any torso injuries.

As for what happened. Well there are two theories, the road surface changed from one tarmac to another (with a nice big kerb/bump) just at the point I began to turn, and there is a skidmark starting about a meter after this. Perhaps it bumped me off as I was probably leaning in by then.

Second theory- Earlier in the ride my front wheel locked up for no reason under gentle braking coming up to a corner, causing me to have to straightline it up a curb and onto some dirt. I have no idea why. My forks have been leaking oil for quite a while, but I dont know the feasibility of this theory?

Anyway the damage to me is a few nice friction burns and a twisted ankle, to the bike it is all bodywork written off, engine case scratched to bits, all pegs and levers on the left hand side gone, rear subframe is wobbly (possibly cracked?) and front subframe is either severely bent or cracked, clocks are gone, tacho drive is gone, wheels are scratched and swingarm is scratched. Tank is fine Razz

All in all a bit of a gutter![/img]

No Mad

As I said to the guy who stopped to help me though, I always fancied black bodywork. Shame itll be 6 months till I can afford it.

Btw, whilst waiting for a tow truck I tipped the bike over on the grass and lay down with my helmet on, looking quite "dead" probably, and nobody bothered to stop! Despite there being a giant skidmark, oil, smashed plastic and a smashed bike with a guy lying down with his helmet still on!

Everybody went past, glanced, then drove on! I was doing my best impression of a casualty.

Unsurprisingly the man and his girlfriend who did stop (before this) were bikers Rolling Eyes Arent people nice.

Sorry to hear that, not a nice feeling. Look on the bright side, there is no reason not to drink now. Smile

Hope you get it fixed soon.

Glad you're alright chap, I know it's not a nice experience to go sliding down the road Sad

Fork oil been leaking for "quite a while"? Shocked Rolling Eyes - there's your answer - your suspension basically couldn't work as it was supposed to, and as a result, couldn't deal with a bump in the road, so you got spat off.

An expensive lesson there Neutral Idea - please don't ignore things like that.

WildGoose, it wasnt an official triumph jacket, just one off ebay with the triumph logo.

I didnt get any injuries as a result to my torso, but as you can see the jacket did indeed split at the seems in 4 places. I imagine I was doing 30-40mph so at a higher speed that jacket would be a danger to you.

leaking oil from the forks and front brake on round a corner would have caused your off.

Im trying to remember the exact series of events for the corner.

Im honestly not sure whether I was just begining to apply the front brake, or just about to release the last bit of it.

I think I was probably in the process of letting the front brake out, whilst just begining to tip the bike in, when I hit the bump. I guess a combination of these two things sent me off.

I dunno if the leaking forks contributed or not because as far as I can tell the bike rode perfectly well otherwise (with regards to the forks). Still felt damped and fine to me, but Im not exactly very experienced with these things.

Just to clarify btw, I dropped the bike before the corner started,

I was begining to tip the bike in, but was still on a straight bit of road, with the corner in front of me. The lean angle was very small (if any at all).

Infact hmm, wtf, now I think about it I was atleast 30 meters from the corner when I dropped the bike.

Wtf.

Yeah the bike was still 10m or so from the entrance of the corner when it stopped sliding. I must have walked a good 20 meters to get to the bike too.

I must have been going in a dead straight line when I dropped it. Hmm. I had definately shifted my arse off the seat in preperation for the corner though.

I think Ill have to go back there tomorow and have a better look. The more I think about it im fairly sure I was miles away from the actual corner when I stood up.

Perhaps I hadnt tipped the bike in at all. How early do you begin leaning the bike? Hmm.

I definately had my body shifted for the corner, was fading off the brakes and getting ready to corner, when it dropped.

Bleh, will go back tomorow and ponder my mistake.

Shocked shit man is prety bad as you say.
Like I said though it's more important that you are up and walking about afterwards!
Will have to watch out for that road.
My bike was playing up the other day as it felt as though it was wobbling about to easy turns out I had a bubble in the tyre! got a new one now, could'nt have been anything with the tyres?

Well like I said in thew text if you need a hand with the bike let me know!

I'm glad your ok man i bet your feeling well shit now but look on the bright side at least your still fine. The bike can be replaced allot quicker than broken body parts can and long term injuries. I don't see why the government has to make the road surface change all the time it is seriously pathetic.
I'm just glad your all fine man.

Yeah it did mate, the first bend on the beehive road before the beehive pub, heading towards the pub (the one with a layby next to it).

Going to have a good look at the bike and decide how to repair it and how much itll cost after work in a bit.

I doubt ill street fighter it as it would ruin the resale value? I might buy some TZR250/125 bodywork if I get the chance. Dunno though. Will see.

That's pretty much what happened when i hit an oil spill on my NSR at a roundabout, i saw the bike sliding away from me and got up and started running in mid slide. Then the pain kicked in Sad. The nice people who helped me, aslo pointed out that if i hadnt ran after the bike, a boy racer behind me in a bodykitted fiesta braked hard, and would have certainly ran me over if i didn't leg it. I find that VERY disturbing Sad

Well Ive had a good look at the bike and phoned a few breakers and have a repair analysis:

1) Replace front left fairing £60 or so
2) Replace tail unit (light still intact £60 or so
3) Replace bar ends £20 or so
4) Remove pillion pegs as theyre ruined and I dont use them so might as well be removed instead of replaced
5) Replace gear selector lever and footpeg
6) Bend subframe back into place if possible on front
7) Ignore scratched swingarm
8) Bend + bodge fairing and other such mounts back into place
9) Replace clocks
10) Replace switchgear on left handlebar
11) Replace screen

Now the issues that are worrying me:

1) When I run the engine on the paddock stand it runs fine but if I let the clutch out the transmission sound bloody awful. Loud knocks and bangs and all sorts, hoping its just the rear wheel is misaligned. Sounds perfect with clutch in. Is stuck in gear ofcourse.

2) The engine case on the left hand side is severely scratched and I dont know if this is easy or possible to replace? Would appreciate any advice on this

All in all it looks like Ill probably repair it over the course of a few months, providing the gearbox isnt ruined or something.

£20 is too much for bar ends, even for uber tart ones for Zxr400er! :p

At this point I would get on the phone to me dad who would tell me exactly what to do.

Could be worth cutting your losses, break it and/or sell it how it is on ebay and get something cheaper?

Bent frames are never good.

Just an option of course.
