OBD II Bluetooth reader for car

Im thinking of buying one of those OBD port readers that can then Bluetooth the data to a smartphone for my car. Anyone have any experience of them? Ones to avoid, android apps etc.

If you just buy a cheap one off FleaBay then bear in mind they come in two flavours: Bluetooth for Android, WiFi for iPhones. TBH dedicated hand-held readers are fuck all money and much more convenient, depends what you want to do...

I use an app called Torque which unfortunately has morphed into a bit of a beast (as in more options than you can shake a stick at but it does read codes.) It has a virtual dash and I set up coolant temperature and manifold pressure gauges as my car doesn't have those.

WiFi ones work on android too. It's more a case of what your software can use.

I wouldn't recommend the WiFi option unless you have to, I have one of those from when I had an iPhone. I still use it on Android but you have to piss about to tell the phone to use mobile data instead of WiFi but still keep the WiFi on and all the while the phone is super upset 'cos it thinks it's connected to a bum WiFi router - Samsung being overly helpful YMMV on other Android brands ofc.

I've not had that problem. My Samsung swaps straight to data automatically cause it can't get the internet via wifi and to say that wifi ones aren't for android is clearly wholly incorrect.

I’ve got a cheap Giveet Car WIFI OBD2 Scanner and the EOBD-Facile app. Connection is easy and the app is free unless you want to upgrade, which I haven’t done.

You can gather sensor and performance data on the move to view later but since my car’s OBD socket is above the pedals I don’t trust it not to fall off and obstruct them. However it did indicate a fault on ignition coil #1 when I had a misfire.

i bought a cheap one, off the bay, for a Ford, a few years back. it was easy enough to use, via a phone app. reset the codes too, which was handy.

There's a lot on Amazon and Ebay. Im looking at Bluetooth ones. Im just bot wanting to screw the car yo plugging a bad one in. Are they all essentially the same or are there ones to avoid?

I had the best results with the ultra cheap translucent blue ones.
