It's pissed down all morning here, really heavy rain at times. It's stopped a couple of times for 20 minutes here or there
and is stopped right now but my back garden is like a swamp. Just been out to change the batteries on my shed alarm
which has been beeping at me all morning to tell me it needs new ones and it was a squelch fest walking across the lawn.
No way I'm rolling a minter out across all that mud and the roads are still soaking wet so it's going nowhere today even
if the rain doesn't come back.

KwikFit: The upselling is mad. Take the car in because the front brake pads are truly shot and the discs very likely shot as well so prepared for that then after their "free inspection" they quote £950 worth of works; the pads, discs, flexi pipes, brake pipes, universal joint boot, suspension bushes and front shocks! Its like there wasnt a single bolt on the car didn't need replacing. Anyway thanks but no thanks just do the discs and pads, how much will that be. £270 ok just do that. Sheeeshh. If I had a garage or at least a driveway id do it myself but my days of scrabling about in the street mucking around under cars is years past so im sanguine about the extra cost to go to a garage and I knew KwikSting would attempt to upsell but jezuss they sure go for it big time.

Yeah, I know KwikFit Rolling Eyes

I'd be tempted to ask them to show me all those faults there and then. I think there is a partial liability thing possibly going on now too though and they are possibly wary of advising a vehicle is "perfectly safe" when sending you on your way, with the only way to be sure is to replace everything Laughing ; I think they will make assumptions (I know, not a good start) about your frequency of visiting a workshop, then advise on what *might* become defective in the intervening period. I had this from the Honda dealer on my VFR; they suggested the pads were "half worn, might be worn out before your next service, do you want us to change them?". Ha, err no I can see if they are worn myself thanks and will deal with it *if* the need arises.

I was expecting them to notice the flexi pipes and perhaps the solid pipes but all the bushes and shocks stuff was pure upsell. If theyed just stuck to the flexis i may have had them done as well but seeing im getting a service at my prefered garage in the new year I'll get them to do it.

Ford (I'm sure they bought it from Tom Farmer years ago. He moved on to insurance brokering.)

Equally, That's something I want them to tell me when I take my company van in for service. If a part isn't going to make it until the next service, I want it sorted now because having it out of action for the day is a pain in the backside and probably costs the company more than the extra few months of brake pad is worth.

Been for hearing test - put it off for years. The quack described my hearing as like listening to music when someone's punctured the treble cone. Sadly, unless you are Barry White, that is the bit of range that normal speech sits in. Too many years riding bikes without earplugs methinks. Rolling Eyes

Going for my aids fitting next week. The quack said it should be like when I first tried on glasses - a revelation! Lets hope....

I knew someone years ago who had profound hearing loss and they were fitted for some hearing aids. The audiologist warned them that they should wait until they're at home before trying them on. She couldn't wait so put them on when she got back to her car then freaked out as she'd never heard rain on a car roof before. Then when she is was at home she picked up a newspaper and immediately dropped it as it sounded so harsh as the paper crackled, she'd always though paper was like cloth and soft and would have a soft sound.

A few years ago I went to have my hearing tested because my better half thought I wasn't hearing properly. It turned out my hearing was fine and the audiologist said it happens all the time, men get sent by their women folk to get tested but there's nothing wrong with their hearing they're just not listening.

I think it's more subtle than that. They don't talk TO you, they just talk and expect you to actively listen. Especially if it's something they know you don't want to hear or a question they arent going to like the answer to.

If you have something to say you want me to hear, you need to stand somewhere vaguely close, face me and say it. Telling the living room wall you don't like its colour while I am in the kitchen is not going to get it painted but you then get to cast up how you keep asking but I wasn't listening.

Admittedly facing me in the kitchen and telling me you don't like the colour of the wall in the living room isn't going to get it painted either but I will then have heard you and will tell you why I'm not going to do it.

Might be joining you there, managed to accidentally perforate my own eardrum with a cotton bud today, went in so
far it there was some resistance pulling it out, taking some effort to remove it. Have an ear full of blood and some
ringing in my ear as well as what I can only describe as a dullness in what I can hear on that side. FML.
I have hyper sensitive hearing anyway and find crowded places very disorienting, like I can hear everyone's
conversation all at once all around me, footsteps, vehicles plus any other mechanical or electronic noises. My ideal
environment is as quiet as possible or I can't focus on anything. Maybe being deaf in one ear will be a blessing in disguise.

I remember being in a Tesco in York and there was an extremely loud whistling noise coming over their PA, right at the very upper end of my hearing range bordering on unhearable but giving you the sensation your ear wax was melting. Mrs stinkwheel couldn't hear it. It was almost painfully loud and when I timed it, it was repeating for a fixed length of time after a fixed length of time.

I had to leave the shop it was so uncomfortable but I stopped past customer services to tell them on my way out. They were surprisingy interested and wrote down the time intervals. She couldn't hear it either but said they'd had loads of staff off with headaches over the previous couple of days.

A few years ago, the staff at Asda stores, under threat of industrial action, negotiated that christmas muzak could only be played for a fixed number of hours in any working day.

A company was selling a system that made sound that wasn't hearable by adults but was unbearable for teenagers and younger about 15 years ago. Funnily enough it was a vets just round from my old house where my kids always complained about the high pitched loud noise.
It's down to the fact the older you get the lower the highest pitch sound your ears can perceive.

The company was eventually done in by age discrimination laws, no idea what they were called and can't be arsed to look it up.

They can sell it but people/companies cannot legally use it.

I'm afraid they can. It's not currently illegal to deploy the device in the UK. There was some talk about banning it at EU level but since Brexit...

Youngest daughter has just got a new job as yard manager of a riding school in Richmond, where the toffs live Laughing

It's living in and she can take her horse down with her and put it in the stables. All good and I have access to a horse lorry, an old vehilce but in good condition to take said horsey down to Richmond from it's stables in MK.

But the ULEZ charge levied by Gruppenfurher Khan, for 24 hors for the horse box is..........................

£300

Fcuk me sideways. It's cheaper to hire a horsebox for £50 a day and hitch it to my mates Dacia sh1t box. Bloody ridiculous.

Itt's such a shame that a horse doesn't have legs, otherwise it could go from the edge of the ulez area to the sables with, for example, someone riding it to direct it to said stables. It's such a shame that horses can't carry riders.

Riding a horse from the M25 to Richmond, 10ish miles on London roads? Don't be an utter dick Nobby.

Not sure horse ownership is necessarily indicative of massive wealth; my wife used to have a horse when she was younger, but it cost less than a tenth of it's weight in Bostik.

1. I don't own the horse, my daughter does. I'm just helping her move it with a borrowed lorry.
2. If you think a couple of hours inside the M25 is worth £300 'tax', fine, I don't, it's a fcuking rip off.
3. Not everyone who owns a horse is rich. She works nights in a warehouse to pay for the livery.

But hey, you stick to stereotyping Thumbs Up

Confirms that London is a waste of space and not worth the effort to visit.

I shall continue my boycott of the place.

It will eventually disappear up its own arse/under Thames.
