thanks yeah, I went through the 'report a problem' thing yesterday, any idea how long it usually takes from reporting it, to it being done?

thanks yeah, I went through the 'report a problem' thing yesterday, any idea how long it usually takes from reporting it, to it being done?
Seemed to be a matter of days when I rang my mate in Wiltshire to tell him I had just seen all of his bikes and tools inside his open doored garage on GSV. There's a blur over just his garage in the 2009 version that I spotted back then and the two updates I've just looked at jump his house altogether now.

Google are pretty quick at sorting such things out.

I'm not looking for it but if I were, I'd stand a decent chance of finding a suitable image. I've been doing this sort of thing for a long time.

I'm just pointing out that blurring out can and does attract attention.

Went down the dump today; pre-empt the pile up of rubbish post Christmas. Car was great on the way there, all great on the way back. Last turn into my road... wtf?

Clutch pedal not returning Sad

Literally yards from my house thankfully. Cue traumatising Interwebs search... clutch master, clutch slave, maybe clutch slave is internal to bell housing, bleeding procedures, breath into paper bag, examine wallet that's just recently been emptied.

Calm down a bit and went back out to examine the car. Doesn't seem to be any obvious leaks, reservoir is full Thinking Hook my foot under the pedal and its... err... fine now! I'm hoping it was literally the pedal mechanism stuck and just needs re-greasing.

You'd be surprised. Placing points of location from local landmarks, checking for planning breaches, fraud investigations...

OSINT doesn't use a single source it uses many. Streetview is just one of the many.

Make sure it wasn't just stuck on the floor mat. That's what the problem was last time I had a similar issue.

The time before street view? It's like asking about the time before the M25! It was built in my lifetime but I struggle to remember what it was like previously.

But not all those things show your property in clear.
The people who actually need to see your property can go and physically look at it, and they'll probably be better served by doing that.
A map (or sat nav) is enough to find your way accurately to an address - you don't actually need to see what it looks like to get there.

I'm still not seeing Street View as being more important than an individual's privacy, especially at their home. Anything else?

I'd be more concerned about people walking round and knocking on doors whilst supposedly working for a charity because they know which houses are empty during the day.

How many people actually do, and for what purposes?
And I take it you don't mind if someone comes to your house and stands outside taking photos of it, then plasters those photos up on the internet for all to see? Perhaps for some business concern that you won't benefit from? But probably you won't know they've been there to do it. Or maybe if you saw them doing it, you'd ask them why they are? Or would you just ignore it and leave them to get on with it?

We have two complainants here already. Their property security has been compromised without the service provider seeking their permission to show what they have shown. I just think the onus should be on that service provider to check that what they wish to show is ok with the property owner. Impractical? Tough.

People interested in architecture, gardens, local history...

You don't need permission even for commercial reasons. As long as you're taking photos from public areas you're golden.

Anyone wanting to take detailed photos of my house and land would have to come onto the land to do so. If someone asked me for permission I'd probably be ok with it though. If I lived in a property with public areas next to it then I'd not sweat it at all.

I've just checked on Google maps and my house is on streetview - recent too the solar panels I installed recently are in it. Mind you you'd have to zoom in a lot to see anything. Laughing
