Just started doing my painting. (see above, painter/decorator wants paying more than i do to do it).
Start with primer because it's going over that nasty faux mahogany woodstain people liked in the 80's. I get a bit into it and think "This isn't covering very well".
Land up putting on a second coat and it's still not covering very well, can still see the stain through it.
Have a closer look at the tin and it says to wash the brushes in water. It's fucking latex paint! Bastard fucking shit. I'd sent Mrs stinkwheel in to get the paint and told her the wood primer and gloss had to be in a metal tin thinking that was the sure way to get oil based paint and bless her she did exactly what I asked. Fuckers have put latex primer in a metal tin.
The stuff is irredemably shite, I've been caught out with it before. It doesn't cover and it doesn't key, you can rub the fucking stuff off with your finger in rolls like a bloody scratchcard.
So I'm now going to have to put two coats of gloss over it and hope that'll cover it and stick it down. Wasn't cheap stuff either, £36 for 2 1/2 litres down the spout. I have a horrible feeling I'm now going to have to stand and scrape the motherfucking stuff off with a heat gun and scraper like I had to do last time!
EDIT: The other annoying thing is it's white. I've never seen white primer before, it's usually light grey or at least an off-white which lets you see where you're up to when you put the top-coat on. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Back to my constant pantomime of bullshit with Scottish Power. I've had a second email just four days since the last
telling me that I need to have my meters replaced and to book an appointment for installation. F that say I but
am expecting an avalanche of them now, every few days browbeating me in a very modern manner.
Meanwhile, I read my meters go to pay my bills today and WHAT A COINCIDENCE, I have to queue to get onto
their broken website in order to pay because of a glut of traffic according to them. After 40 minutes trying to log in and
submit my readings this afternoon I try again just now at 9pm. Can't even get logged in so my bills remain unpaid.
Am I supposed to believe that there's 1000s of folk trying to pay their bill at 9pm jamming up the site? Next attempt
will be at 2am, when I know more or less nobody will be trying. It's almost as if a switch has been flicked on my
account to make paying the way I always have thus far an absolute pain in the arse to convince me one of their
spying, variable price, remotely controllable meters is a better option. Perhaps they should fix their website that is
broken before asking me to replace my meter that isn't. This is already feeling like it's the start of a saga. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

The thing is, I know normal, grey, oil-based primer would have covered it and would in turn have covered with a single coat of gloss. I don't want to be putting any more than two coats of paint on a door frame because it's a total pain in the arse. 100% cutting-in with a brush.
Still not enough of a pain to pay someone else £1200 to do it though.
EDIT: And I just found out Mrs stinkwheel has apparently decided we don't need any empty jam jars about the house and has put the two boxes of jam jars I had in the recycling. As such, I have nothing to clean my brushes in, or put motorbike parts/screws in, or paraffin for cleaning chains. Or indeed, for storing jam, preserves, herbs and spices or dried goods. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I have a "smart" meter and I constantly get nudges (on the phone, on the website) to switch to half-hourly readings but no one can explain what's in it for me ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

01:06 - Still unable to log on and pay for my utilities. Scottish power add a £10 surcharge for late payments. This is
going to do my nugget in, I can tell. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

You do you, I prefer to use my laptop. I'm just not an advocate of using my phone for every little thing. I've paid
them both now, with a little overpayment on each to soften the blow next month. A check on down detector has
confirmed that lots of people were having problems yesterday, compounded by the odd Virgin Media outage
which also have affected me here in Bristol. I was watching 44 Teeths most recent video at about 2am when all my
internets stopped working. So I went to bed, laying in bed for an hour I remembered I hadn't taken my medicine so went
back downstairs for a swig, the base station for my security cameras still had a red light on it so I know it was still out
an hour later. It was all sorted when I woke up this morning and everything had rebooted. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

My experience of VM is highly variable. I lived in a flat on the north side of my town, absolute shit connection and went back to ADSL. Moved to the south side of the town and it's been fantastic. Goes down about once or twice a year, perfectly acceptable for a domestic connection.
However, with any connection - VM, BT, whoever - as dave says you should never use the default DNS servers. You can usually change this on your router in the WAN settings page to override the defaults provided by DHCP from your service provider.
Fastest will be Google (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) but no one likes the Alphabet people so I would suggest Cloudflare as an alternative (1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1) and if you dig into it there are DNS servers that attempt to filter out malware and pr0n sites (won't someone think of the children!)
My router even has a load of pre-programmed choices which you can use manually on any router:
Code: | AdGuard 94.140.14.14 / 94.140.15.15 Blocks advertisements.
AdGuard 94.140.14.15 / 94.140.15.16 Blocks advertisements. Blocks adult contents.
CleanBrowsing 185.228.168.10 / 185.228.169.11 Blocks access to all adult, pornography and explicit sites. Google and Bing set to Safe Mode. Security filter applied.
CleanBrowsing 185.228.168.168 / 185.228.169.168 Blocks access to all adult, pornography, explicit, VPN, Proxy and mixed content sites. Google, Bing, and YouTube set to Safe Mode. Security filter applied.
CleanBrowsing 185.228.168.9 / 185.228.169.9 Blocks access to phishing, spam, malware and malicious domains.

Appreciate the reply but honestly, that's all Greek to me. It either works or it doesn't. I'm far from stupid but I never
had any schooling in Computer-ese. I definitely don't want to filter out porn though. My knob will disown me,
it's already got the hump because I've written IRL women off, my prostate needs porn or it will surely shrivel up
to the equivalent of a dried out old fag butt, last thing I need as I'm just about to turn 50. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha
