Water spray out of tail pipe

Hello All.

Had a minor run in with a van that ended up putting my bike as a cat N. 4th Dimension took my bike in for assessment. I was offered a third party insurance payout and an offer to salvage my machine for £935. I declined the offer and took my bike back.

Yesterday it arrived in a far worse state than when they collected it after the crash.

Context
I rode the bike home after the collision. Slight vibration from the front. Got home switched it off. A few days later started the bike up and it was all fine.

Now, a few weeks in the possession of the claims company and the bike returns with serious water-logged system spraying water out the pipe on every twist of the throttle. See attached video.

Please can someone let me know what/how they think this is/could have happened?

Wow.

All I can think of is the water going in the end can. I really can't see that coming out of the engine and it still actually functioning.

How ,long did you run the engine for?

IC engines produce water continuously, as a by product of combustion.

Hydrogen and Oxygen when combined can make Dihydrogen Oxide.

You can see it in 'cold' exhaust gas as water vapour (Steam ).

Was it hauled away on the back of a low-loader on a very wet day perhaps, with lots of spray whirling about? Unfortunate air flow to get that much down the can and soak the packing though.

I'd probably undo the exhaust at the splitter and seperate one or more of the pipes to let any residual water out.

I also can't see that much water coming from the cooling system into the engine and it still be running so it's pretty much got to be water going up the exhaust.

I'd say as above, it was either on the back of a flatbed and got spray up in there or it got manky and someone's been at it with a pressure washer/hose.

If it's coolant, it'll taste sweet. Up to you if you decide you want to taste it. Wouldn't be stupid to check the coolant level anyway.

Definately water and not fuel?

It wouldn't matter if it was fuel or water, any liquid of that volume in a cylinder would hydrolock it.

it starts and revs and idles. The video shows that.

it idles and revs well(? (sure sounds like it)) ergo not a faulty headgasket (not for THAT amount of spray...that will stop combustion 100%

so you got water inside your exhaust sitting about that somehow got inside from the only hole thats exposed at the back. Maybe someone was a knob, maybe it was "weather".
Take pipe off and go to town emptying it out, or...just check coolant level to make 100% happy happy sure, and Go ride it..it'll come out (the bulk, via revs)/ the rest will evaporate from heat.

As soon as an engine fires up, within seconds it would blast any water that had managed to find it's way into the exhaust.
And it would probably make a big sooty splosh.

only thing i can think of if they stored pipe out side in a rain storm pointing up or washed it and shot the presure washer strait up the pipe

like a retard

even if was on a low load or bike was stord out side i cant see that much water getting in the tail pipe

I have also seen a similar effect when someones "mate" at a rally spent the whole weekend pissing into their high level end can.

The best bit about that was the bikes owner had noticed and on the sunday morning he slowly and quietly unzipped said "mates" tent zip, reversed the bike into the opening, then fired it up and started bouncing it of the rev limiter.

Do you have a drain hole on the exhaust midpipe? Usually just a pinhole but it's easy to get blocked. My 929 used to spit water and vapour on cold/wet mornings until I cleaned it out.
