Suzuki gn 125 exhaust over heating but engine is cold

Hi hope some one can help me I’ve got a Suzuki gn 125 when started it runs ruff and the exhaust gets red hot within about a minute and back fires the engine remains cool I’ve checked the timing and that’s bang on any help will be much appreciated

No it’s not long started only things I’ve changed are the carb and had the wiring redone at a garage but run fine after both things had been done

I replaced the carb because the float and seals had completely gone and was cheaper to buy new one the repair and the wiring was completely gone had a new wiring harness put on

Have you ever had it running normally?

This carb. Is it exactly the same as the old one? Or have you bought a chinese ebay special and bolted it on? Did you check the jetting and choke diameter is exactly the same as the original?

Have a look at the sparkplug electrode and see how cooked it is. Post pics if you can.

It’ was running perfect till about a week ago had the carb on for about 4 weeks now that looks all good inside and it’s a genuine Suzuki carb it’s exactly the same as the old one spark plug is black but doesn’t look to bad can get pics later

If you changed the carb and within a few weeks it's massively over fueling (black spark plug) your problem is related to the carb.

That being the case, might be worth checking the tappets to make sure the exhaust side hasn't closed up.

Did you actually check the jetting and needle position was correct before fitting the new carb.? A new carb doesn't always come with the correct jets fitted.

Checking the plug should be the first thing to do
just whip it out and see what colour it is to get some clues

If its black and sooty its over fuelling
but I suspect it may be white/greyish/glazed and running too lean
why may be due to wrong jetting, setting or valve clearances,
a cheap aftermarket chinese carb or inlet leak
