If you want to see *really* bad latency, try a geostationary satellite provider. I used one for a couple of years when I first ditched BT and the latency on that was approx 500mS
*And* I ran a VoIP phone on it which caused no end of confusion to people who didn't know about the delay... |

I've had it for work, gaming, everything in between.
Had one outage that was part of the 13 minute worldwide outage on Starlinks end. The rest have been momentary blips, max 10 seconds.
Usual day to day ms is 20-30, loaded is a different story. Looking high 80s to low 110s.
Large downloads, even if capping the speeds via software results in super choppy video if on teams, however doesn't affect netflix likely due to the buffering in place.
Get around 200-250Mbps day time 8-5, after 5 a degree of capping is in place, or after 25GB of data, get chopped to ~100-150 tops.
Upload is 20-30, seen 50 a few times.
My sat is south facing, drawing 89-91W of juice constantly. It did however overheat last summer during that massive heatwave that took out some datacentres but I just threw a hose pipe on it, didn't change the power draw though.
Yeah the ethernet adapter is like £35 and useful if you want to use your own kit, I've got it so I can split bandwidth internally and VPN some shit to the US for TV purposes. There is no IWF filtering on Starlink so if you intend to allow children access, a basic filter should be on the menu at least.
Other than the odd slowdown, random 'obstruction' and drain on the grid, it's kept me more than alive. My 10Mbps ADSL is there in reserve.
I paid £99 for the dish and it works out £75 a month. It's costly hence if you can get fibre of any kind, even if it's multiple 70+ Mbps fttc/VDSL, do that. I cannot and the cost to install fibre would be 14 years of Starlink.
If you want to know anything specific, let me know. Everything was pain free but did have to buy wall mount and ethernet adapter but is what it is. The app is fairly shite also, and is non usable with your own router. |

Sorry should explain more. The power lead that powers the Starlink, my firewall and my router in total is ~90w
I have the rectangle dish.
I will plug it solo when I get some downtime and see what it does solo, but electricity doesn't bother me too much, its my highest bill |

No, the £12.50 magically changes a 2003 diesel car without a DPF into a silent, fume free Tesla. A true wonder of science. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Today I ordered a Husqvarna OBD2 adapter nope, that's the wrong connector Ah! A special new Husqvarna red connector... and it's over twice the price?!
Turns out I missed a meeting and now Euro5 bikes all have a standardised connector so there is no specific Husqvarna one anymore. Generic Euro5 OBD2 adapter? A few months ago I went thru a whole pile of paperwork from years back and I decided to bin the lot ... anything before 2017 (6 years, taxman's rules) got put in a big shopping bag - but I didn't get round to getting rid of it. The bag just sat under my windowsill gathering dust.
Last week I bit the bullet and took a hefty handful of it into work to put in the confidential waste bin, which gets emptied and shredded regularly.
But I think that my cat Dennis has been sitting on top of the papers as the whole lot stunk of cats - and now so does my handbag.
I wouldn't mind but I bumped into the (rather dishy) Director of Private Patients in the photocopying room and I reeked, fucking cat
So now I've gone and bought one of those roller-things that blacks out your details, so people can't steal your identity by going through your rubbish.
Then I bought a cross-cut shredder as well
Fuck it.
