Went into the office today for the chief exec's meeting then treated myself to a stonking great lunch of oxtail stew with a proper mountain of rice and peas.

I'd normally avoid that sort of carby stodge these days but I wasn't planning on staying the afternoon at my desk to work (i.e. fall asleep), so I scoffed the lot and then went for my winter jabs before buggering off home again.

Fuck me, that staff canteen, when its good the food rocks. They won some kind of catering award recently and for good reason.

Sometimes you go in there and the choices are hideous : spinach with salty fish shite but the catering team really do ensure the diversity angle is covered, so now and then you have to expect something vile-sounding/smelling.

It probably tastes better than I think it will, although I went into a meeting with my boss a couple of months ago after having some delicious Ethiopian chicken stew but I realised somewhat too late that I reeked of garlic

Just got back from 3 days trip with my mates in Vienna and everything was just perfect.

I and 2 other my mates were invited to Vienna by a friend of mine, who lived there for many years. He emigrated there in the 80's, so we had the best tour guide one can image. He knew where to go, what to see... not just the tourist trap crap people usually go for.

The weather was great, a bit too hot for my likings, the food was also great, beer was alright and I really enjoyed the trip. There weren't even that many tourists in the city, so places were not crowed.

The Technisches museum was very nice (full of machines of all sorts and ''toys'' to play with), the same goes for the Kunsthistorisches museum (all sorts of stuff from the past and art, beautiful interior), Schönbrunn (huge gardens/parks), Belvedere (very, very expensive paintings; side note: I do not underdstand/like modern art). We also roamed through the city on foot a lot, my friend pointing out interesting things and telling me and my mates stories about how he got to Vienna, where he lived, where he worked, studied and so on... he also knows a lot about the Austria-Hungarian history, so gave us a lecture on important stuff as we walked around and it was genuinely interesting. A weekend well spent, I say.

Took myself off to one of them event showcase things at a fancy gaff in town.

Started out arriving at the wrong place, luckily realised my error within five minutes of arriving, so dashed off to the proper venue round the corner, I'm sure the concierge at the first place has people do that all the time.

Had posh breakfast nibbles, including a mimosa (at 9 am, FFS!!) and chatted to other lady invitees who organise events. Ate elegant buns and smoked salmon, drank fancy tea, looked around, very nice, clean toilets and glamorous surroundings.

They also had a "mindfulness" session which was surprisingly relaxing, nearly fell asleep ... and then I fucked off for a stroll past the Saudi embassy and around Shepherds Market - what better thing to do on a balmy autumn morning than mosey around Mayfair. Its exactly the sort of thing that caused me to want to come to London in the first place, back when I was a gauche young thing.

Enjoyed getting back on the Jubilee line due to a complete escalator journey full of advertisements involving the more-than-slightly-adorable Matt Smith (be still my racing heart!)... before getting back on the train to attend a proper meeting about policy document servers

Wrote a short report on both, just in case the boss wants to know what else I did today (although he rarely asks, so long as I produce the goods)

A few months ago I was offered an afternoon tea for two at another place in Knightsbridge because I added them to our recommended hotels list at work, just for the hell of it - was gobsmacked when the guy in sales said he would arrange for a tea for two for me and just to let him know the date - so I might take myself off to that at some point soon. Nobody else lives close enough to invite and I'm not brave enough to invite the director of private patients (I did ask MCW but she's apparently too busy being terribly busy and important) - so maybe I'll just go and then eat two lots of scons-an-jam.

Made some marrowbone soup from scratch, including green French beans and broccoli, it smells divine and tastes even better - thick and rich: just perfect for cold horrid days like today.

Its supposed to be good for your skin and joints: collagen and glucosamine.

Great with a little pile of roast beef flavoured crisps, too!

Croutons sound too much like carbs (even more than crisps!) ... but what a fantastic idea.

I did consider staying totally keto and making some of those melted-cheese crispy things but I couldn't be arsed
