Hi guys, Ive been thinking about getting a 180 tyre for the bandit 6 next. is the B12 rear wheel wider than the B6? is the swingarm different? It looks like it will fit...

It might but it will buger up the handling. There are very few (if any) bikes that will take a wider section tyre without ruining the handling. Some people do it just for the look of the thing but why pay good money for a bike that someone has spend years researching a good handling package and then bollox it all up?

well the 1200 has it as standard so I cant see it messing up the handling unless somethign else is different (apart from the engine)

But do you really need a 180 tyre? If the 160 does the job that's all that is important isn't it? Afterall you will only be spending more money for more rubber that makes little difference. Smile

The bandit 12 is a heavier more powerfull bike and needs the wider tyre. If u want the bike to be quick round corners go a size down not up. Going up will make corners harder work and slower. I am running a 180 on my zx7r and when it comes to chaging the tyres 170's going on the back!! Depends what you want 180 for that meen wide look! 160 for handling!!!!

Well to be honest I am geting a bit bored with my bandit Confused I keep seeing 1200s and loving that wide tyre look. I just figured upgrading the tyre would keep my happy with the look of the bike longer which s probably a lot cheaper than buying a new bike Thumbs Up

Im not really a poser so dont care what other people think. I want to do it just because thats how i want it to look. If its going to really screw the handling then it will have to stay 160. Sad

The difference will be the footprint of the tyre. The width of the tyre recommended takes the weight and the tyre pressure into consideration. My Bird runs at 42 psi front and rear with a 180 section tyre. It can take a 190 but then youd have to work out what the pressure should be to get the best footprint on the corners because the profile of the tyre will be different. If your not the knee down type then you might be able to get away with it but I would prefer to have a bike that was far more capable of handling anything I ask of it than one where I might eventualy find the limits and end up in a ditch.

Well looks really. Performance is pretty good. I would have been happier with a black one but there just werent any around when i bought mine.

I may get an aftermarket exhaust soon. with the extra noise i think it will keep my going. I just fancied a wide tyre to finish off the back end really. Thumbs Up

I think they have to be black. It is bright red and looks ok. I bought it cos it was mint with only 3600 miles on and it was the 2000 model Thumbs Up

I went out to buy a black blackbird (I mean how could it possibly be anything else?) but I found a blue one that was mint and got a good deal. Now I think the blue Brids are the best looking of the lot.
It's amazing how a few little things can cheer you up about your bike. I got some custom stickers made (of my avatar) for the fairings and they look cool (to me anyway).
Just personalize it a bit with stuff no one else has and it will feel more like your own bike.

There are countless things you can do to change the look of a Bandit, if you want.

Try here for starters

https://www.banditmania.co.uk/

Not really looked at this one but you never know

https://www.sukbog.co.uk/

and all the usual accessory places have loads of bits for them.

BTW I ended up with a red one, after looking for a black one. Never really liked the colour but the bike was OK. I kept it for six years anyway!

I have (as Claud said) a 180 on a 600, but my bike has been modified to do this. It wasn't just a case of putting in the wheel, the swingarm has been changed also, and the frame has been adjusted to make the back end higher.

The handling after this work is fine. I don't know how it would work just inserting the wheel.

just a little fact to keep in mind "Honda tested a 170 section rear tyre on the 2003 CBR 600RR and found it better in turn in and stability, but thought that people would not buy the bike because of it" now thats an onion in the ointment! Shocked something to think about anyway! remember how easy it was to throw those 125's and 250's into corners and around tight u-turns? Very Happy
