Credit Scores.

Apparently two bad things in my credit score, simultaneously:

1) Not utilising the credit I have available.

2) Using >50% of the credit I have available.

I have a card with a balance I pay off every month and a zero percent balance transfer card I dumped some stuff on a while back. Average the two out and I'd be <50% of credit utilisation but no, paying off a card every month is bad and shopping for the cheapest credit is also bad.

Not really sure what these credit scores are meant to do when every credit agreement I've ever entered into has just sailed through (e.g. mobile phones and cars.)

Of course, this would have been fine if they were roller hub brakes.

Credit card companies make no sense, I'm pretty sure it's down to AI. (like real intelligence, only artificial).

Mine, which I've had for decades and have paid by DD every time it's due wrote to me saying they were reducing my credit limit because I wasn't using enough of it (I spend around £800 on it every month and had a £1500 limit). Couple of months later they reduced it to £500. Thing is, there was already £750 on it when they did this, so they effectively stopped my credit card.

I called them to ask WTF was going on. They said they weren't prepared to increase it above this. They initially repeated the line I wasn't using enough of the balance until I pointed out the current balance was more than they just reduced it to. They then said that there was some sort of problem with my credit score which it was up to me to find out what it was and do something about it.

I decided this is too much hassle and in any case, sounds like a them problem rather than a me problem. Said I'd just pay the outstanding balance and cancel the card, but they then couldn't take a payment over the phone so I had to go into my bank to put a BACS payment through then call them back to cancel it.

Fucking pain in the arse. Got a different one with another company with the original credit limit in about 15 minutes of online form filling.

Sounds like my M&S credit card. I got it on a whim when bought lunches from the shop. Now I know M&S don't really do cards, it's a branding exercise, still I thought it was cute to buy my M&S sandwich with an M&S card. This was back when you had staff that would give you a smile when you whipped it out*

Years and years I had the card and the original £1,000 limit never got bumped. Until... I forgot to pay it off one time and payment ended up being a day late. Bam! the next month "we're reducing your credit limit". Well fuck you very much, I'll buy my sandwiches in Tesco from now on.

*The card! You filthy minded individuals.
