...Give 39billion towards social housing in this country. Have a guess who all those houses/homes will be given to as it certainly won't be the British and/or UK Citizens !

1.5 million new homes to be built as a minimum so far but I've got no idea where they will actually be. Seems like they will be very nice places to live though as the Govt are taking over the countryside and rural areas. Existing/Current residents there won't be too happy when it starts happening...

What will actually happen: £££ is allocated for housing "on paper", the houses won't get built, money gets quietly "returned" to the Exchequer (not that it really existed in the first place.)

It's one thing to announce a desire to build houses but if there isn't any capacity to build how is it going to get done?

That's the truth if they can manage to do it within 4 years.
No 2nd chances for labour after this 1st debacle in power though so they're just wasting their (and our) time now tbh !

A majority of new builds around us (like an hour away as we are middle of nowhere) have been council homes and the occasional private homeowners.

Presumably you are a boat person mindset. Not everyone gets handouts. They don't all get a free house.

72% of Somalis live in social housing compared to the average of 16% for the UK population overall. You wanna go down this road?

No government would survive if it left immigrant families sleep rough on the streets. Babies starving and freezing to death etc. Whatever the governments true motivations they cant escape those optics.

So the optics of armed forces veterans sleeping rough is acceptable?

Labour has said they are going to stop paying hotel owners to house migrants soon so where do you think all those people are going to go? As someone else already said, The Govt won't just forget about all these illegals and let them live on the streets with no support. There's not enough detention centres to put them in and even if there was the illegals would complain and the Human Rights Lawyers would kick off again so it's obvious they will all go in to nice free social housing when the hotels stop getting paid.

Even if suitable sites were just waiting about ready for imaginary builders to move in, hardly anything will even start to happen for at least a year.
In reality the materials required are not available and importing skilled trades from 3rd world countries(?) and getting them up to speed with our HSE and everything else is hilariously impractical.

There's plenty of building firms in this country who can put up new build estates at lightning fast speed. If the Govt offers them contracts to do the work on new sites they could start within a couple of months easily. Something's definitely going to change about housing illegals in the near future so it will be interesting to see what happens next. If they all get put into Labours new homes I think the British public will go bonkers and start a revolution.

Same here. There's very little support for our own citizens who are genuinely homeless because their lives took a turn for the worse and they got into problems they couldn't solve. We have to be on the streets for at least 3 months before we will even get a hostel and even when we get offered one of those we can only be there at night after 10pm and we have to be out at 7am the next morning. Lots of our homeless (with the exception of the druggies) had jobs at some stage in their lives and paid taxes into the system but nobody is giving them nice rooms in fancy hotels with 3 meals a day and pocket money to spend.

The government have said they've got plans to end the use of hotels to hold asylum seekers by 2029 and that hotels will be phased out by cutting small boat crossings and building new government-owned accommodation for asylum seekers.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8xgzprn1vjo

It sounds like if / when the number of small boat crossings isn't cut sufficiently and if / when there hasn't been enough government owned accommodation for asylum seekers built then that means it won't be possible to stop using hotels to hold asylum seekers.

Credit where it's due; The Government are decriminalising rough sleeping so the homeless vets will have one thing less to worry about:-
Angela Rayner throws homeless peeps a lifeline so that they can at least sleep soundly in their cardboard boxes...

I dont believe anything any political party says anymore. None of them are actually in charge of anything. They're just the 'face'.

It's shocking how genuine homeless people (especially men) get treated in this country. I spent 7 years being homeless through no fault of my own but thankfully I never had to sleep rough. I had a small delivery business at the time and was renting a private office in a storage facility that had 24/7 access, heating, showers, and a communal kitchen area. I also had a big van on the safe/free car park so sometimes I would sleep overnight in it just to make sure the facility staff didn't get too suspicious about why I was spending so much time in my office. The manager tried to catch me out several times by doing a surprise visit in the middle of the night and she was always checking that I didn't have a bed or mattress in the room so it was a constant game of cat-n-mouse trying to keep my homelessness a secret.

If San Francisco and LA look like this:

Our politicians be like:

Politicians only do things that benefit the people they represent, not the electorate.
