I’ve had a couple, and the Oxford Premium Rear Paddock Stand was the most stable (but note the reviews regarding it hitting the number plate on some bikes; very odd). However, rear paddock stands always felt awkward to use and I’ve scratched swingarms with them; more so with bobbins than with cups. Maybe that’s just me.
Since buying an Abba Stand that’s all I use, it’s so much easier and secure, although if you chop and change bikes a lot you might wind up buying lots of adaptors to fit different swingarm pivot points. |

Is that all you use in the shed, or is it your ‘make do’ suggestion? |

Nah, I have a bike lift table and one of those scissor-lift platforms if I need to do anything involved or remove the wheel.
In fairness, for cleaning a wheel or lubing a chain, if it's a bike with no mainstand, I don't even use the block of woold, I just push the bike over towards the sidestand with one hand and turn the wheel with the other.
I've never had a lot of success using paddock stands, high risk of dropping the bike getting it on them and it always seems to land up in the way of whatever part you're trying to work on. I think it would be different if you had the type that you fit lift bobbins to the swingarm for. I actually own several paddock stands, they are all in my lockup mouldering away because I stopped using them as they were too much of a fiddle in use and in the way the rest of the time. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
