Story up to now.

Did CBT 2024 & theory in June 25.

So I’ve now coughed up £760 for Mod 1 & 2 but I’m left feeling a little short changed, but it could just be me.

So for the Mod one, I got a session at the pad on the Sunday (including ride there & back), then the ride up & actual test 4 days later, which I passed. (Jul 25)

On the ride back the examiner was pulling me up on a few things & said we’d have to work on them, but has still stuck me in for Mod two.. with only a days training 4 days before the test. (Sep 25)

Is this all you get for your money or is my instructor just tight on money / time?

Cheers C

PS the reasons for pulling me up were

1, being too far to the right on a right hand bend corners.
2, cutting a corner at a junction.

Stuff that I’d fail on, so not minors!

I think I paid the same. I probably got a few more days training but that's 6 years of inflation for you Wink

your time spend on the tar skid pan place, roadcraft for a day. You're paying exactly what I paid around 2023 for exactly the same time.

Surely an instructor especially one who owns the business wants people to pass first time, maybe not... But surely it's in their best interest to stick maximum effort in to make sure we pass first time.

Maybe I'm just harking back to the days of old when I took my car test and it was intensive. This seems very ad-hoc / lax in comparison.

But if this is the norm then I'll just ask for a few more hours between the day & the test.

Doesn't sound like much has changed to me. Driving instructor is usually very much by the numbers, man (or woman) with clipboard stuff. Bike schools are usually run by biker people: egg stain on T-shirt, sparrow living in their beard Laughing

Sounds about right. I had 1 day proper training for MOD1 - with 1 day ride out to a cafe.

Probably a day and a half for Mod2.

Similar pricing.

I guess if you're rubbish they might put a bit more effort in with you.

Sounds about right to me, mod1 under your belt is the probably the hardest bit, and having watched you on the road is confident you'll pass with a bit of guidance.
Being in position 3 on a RH bend for no good reason is definitely something to correct for your riding going forward though.

Sounds like I'm getting what I'm paying for so I won't kick up a stink. There are 4 days between my lesson & my test so if I do need something extra then I'll see if they can squeeze me in.

Thanks all!

Well I had my 4 hours of training. I say 4 hours in the loosest sense,

An hour or so riding to test town. An hour or so at Greggs eating & discussing test questions etc, an hour riding round the test areas & then the trip back home.

Unfortunately the other trainee I was with dropped the bike a few times & the instructor wasn't best pleased to put it mildly (a few choice words were used) It made for an interesting 200 quids worth of training.

Test coming up.. He seems to think I can pass.. only time will tell!

Was convinced I’d failed. It was pissing it down all the way through and I was being extra cautious round every corner and roundabout (I am ultra slow anyway so the weather was good cover)

Trying to find a safe place to stop on the back streets of Nottingham between driveways and parked cars was a nightmare but somehow he didn’t mind my choices. On the first stop (hill start) he told me not to worry about the drive ways!

I thought I’d proper ballsed up… There weren’t 2 lanes on entering the roundabout & I as I got round I was in the wrong lane, so instead of going to the third exit in the wrong lane, I headed for the 2nd exit. (Like I was taught) Fortunately it was only a case of taking a right turn 200 yards up this road so not too bad.

When I got back to the test centre, I was convinced I’d failed and was surprised when he told me the opposite!

About to pull off around a vehicle and as I did a car came round the corner in the other direction.. it’s was 50+ metres away. Instead of hesitating I just carried on. I still passed the stationary car with lots of space and the other car didn’t have to slow or stop.

My instructor would’ve said and had said that there was plenty of room and not to worry about it on the lessons but the instructor said it was a looking ahead minor.

Obviously I did get my moneys worth so all the panic and posting wasn’t really worth it.

Glad I did it though.
