Taxed it.

I got word that ye olde ancient Sportster is finally ready to come out of the shop and Christ only knows how much of a bill that's run up.

But I taxed it anyway and am looking forward to having it back.

Might get my nerve back again, but not really for around town any more, I don't think.
Certainly not dragging its arse back and forth across town to Chelsea like I used to. Specially not with winter looming.

So yeah, just short trips.
Home to Ace Caff on a sunny morning with no black ice, maybe the odd Harley night at the end of a month if I'm working from home - or Home to Bike Shed MC for a bit of posing and a fry-up.

Rode up to Whitby from Lincolnshire for fish n chips.

Stayed at the youth hostel next to the abbey, had a nice full english brekkie and then rode home via pickering.

Went out for a ride to some usual places that were all closed. Looked on Apple Maps & picked a random close cafe.. and a found a gem.

Bee Jays cafe Rotherham. S60 2XQ (Wickes car park)

Stewed steak, chips, onions & mushy peas & a brew for £7.40.

The place had a non stop queue for the hour that I was there.

Great. Caned it down to Wiltshire and it bombed along fantastically.
Am dead chuffed.
First gear/neutral is a bit stiff but I am sure it will improve with use.

Admittedly it will be seeing out the winter in a nice cosy garage with a blanket - started up now and then to ensure battery life. But on a nice day I will be getting it out and pootling about whenever possible. It will be safe and warm while I am slumming it in Australia

on Sunday I installed a new Optimate lead on my Street Triple because the old one snapped, and I took the fairing off of the KR1S, drained the coolant and removed the radiator to access the cylinder head. It's leaking exhaust gases from one of the KIPS valve stems, and so I'm hoping that it either just needs new seals or at worst has grooves worn into the stems and so needs new KIPS valves. They aren't cheap but they are available as remanufactured ones.

If I need a new head I'm not going to be happy. The bike rides REALLY nicely but it doesn't idle. I'm hoping that if there is a gas leak around the KIPS valves, then resolving it will fix the idle.

There's nothing like blasting oop 't road on a crisp sporty two stroke, especially when you're my size and build and can fit on them!


I've been eyeing up some competitors of the KR, as I do miss the gorgeousness of my RGV. I sort of fancy an NSR MC21 but I'd need the right one to come up. Similarly I've always wanted a TZR Reverse Seizure, but they are rare as heck. There is one on ebay at the mo but it's a mint SP and is up for £13k! For a 1980s two stroke that cost them about a quid to build? No thanks!

Put a new chain and sprockets on ye olde Bandit 1250.

The actual chain and sprockets bit took about 20 minutes.

But then there's stripping half the bike down to get at them. And then there's the something else that always needs cleaning/adjusting/replacing while I'm there. And then there's putting it all back together again...

And then there's finding the speed sensor rotor sitting on the bench laughing at me just when I got it all back togehter. And then there's stripping it all down again to refit that... Doh!

No wonder my back's bad.
