Hard armour Vs soft armour

which would be better hard armour or the soft hein gericke hiprotec armour?

I tried searching to see if anyone had posted this before but couldnt find anything

I was in the york hein gericke on sunday.

The soft armour is ment to absorb impact better and is certainly comfortable.

The hard stuff Is not as comfortable and does not absorb impact so well but probably takes more abresion. (spelling sorry)

Thing about that is I don't understand how the hein Gericke stuff works. Me and a mate done a little test we tried banging are elbows on a wall with each armour (yes stupid but it was a test) the hein gericke stuff did'nt do much in the way of stopping abny shock at all! but the hard armour obviously did. I don't know if it's any different at 30 MPH but I don't think I'd want to try it.

Sorry I am a non beleiver of this stuff.

Thats good to know it works then as I have a few mates with this stuff.
I don't understand the science behind it apart from it being a softer material so in tunr should absorb more shock but I can't understand that high impatc shock is stopped with such a thin peice of the material.
Anyway main thing is it works suppose.

Everytime it's been in RIDE it's scored very well on impact tests. Its the only stuff i use, but i'm yet to test it.

From what I can tell, hard foam armour absorbs the energy by the whole thing 'squashing' like a big sponge. The Hiprotec stuff has loads of little cylinders which would appear to work by absorbing the energy by crushing and deforming, similar perhaps to the crush structures in crumple zones in cars.

I'm not very impressed with the solid foam stuff.

Tried and tested - it works.

Hard armour's pretty good at transferring the force to other places, apparently. Which isn't so good - you want absorption and dissipation.

Hard armour does not dissipate forces very well, you end up with big forces being transfered to small areas of the body.

Soft armour has a larger contact patch with your body, so better dissipation. Hein Gericke have done well, it worked well for me.
