It's new year, I'm a wee bit tipsy Wasted and YT is throwing up some classics, so I figured I would drunkenly post this question:

Who do you consider to be the greatest loss to the music industry to date (they must be dead, people that have lost their singing voice don't count).

Top of my list is Freddie Mercury, I know there are a lot of other common ones, but that's why I made this post

Nah. In my estimation Hendrix gave us all modern hard rock really - I am not a fan of the Beatles but I reckon he's nearly as influential as they were.

Whether he'd have continued to produce stuff that blew peoples minds, and whether any hypothetical later output would still be as influential is obviously debatable of course. I think the same might be true of Freddie Mercury. I think part of the reason he's such a legend is that he died just on the tail end of his prime. If he was to become a middle aged fat balding rocker along with the rest of Queen would they be as influential? Who knows but I would take a guess at no.

On that basis he can be forgiven the cringingly bad "Dancing in the Streets" with Mick Jagger. Laughing

I agree he's a legend but I think all the influence he was ever going to have was already expended. His death only increased the legend.

Hmm.. was that also about the time of Let's Dance and China Girl and Drummer Boy? All dreadful in comprision to his early work...
