Nothing much is grinding my gears.
This in itself is mildly gear-grinding.
I'm not sure but I might end up on a redundancy list if my trust's corporate justification exercise goes against me, last-in-first-out stylee. Not as if I haven't been there, done that at this age.
But if not, then I only have a few more years anyway. Meh. I suppose I could temp in governance for a bit. Whatevs, not really that grindy.

Redundancy, starting Wednesday, tomorrow is my last day.
In some ways I'm fairly happy with it, I'm getting a reasonable deal and it's kicking me up the backside to look for something else, but I REALLY liked this job, and I've been there very nearly 8 years.
Honestly? Linear broadcast is dying anyway, and there are other reasons that I am glad it's happening. I suspect now is the last scheduled stop on the good ship Titanic before it hits a huge metaphorical iceberg and sinks without a trace... Plus I get a bit of time off over the summer, and I won't miss the London commute. It's a good time to pivot into information security. I hold a certification and have been doing security risk assessments for 3.5 years, as well as my other duties.
All that said, I will miss a lot of the people who have been part of my career for 23+ years, and I think I will miss the industry, it's a shadow of what it once was, but it was a lot of fun and I never got bored. I have no idea if I can say the same about my new industry, whatever that may be, precisely. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

The prospect of a 2 candidate bye election featuring Nigel Farage and Count Binface has had me chuckling to myself all evening.
I do hope it pans out this way. For many reasons
Also, having read Binfaces manifesto, he makes a persuasive argument. Although I thought his previous commitment to tackling the immigration problem by replacing border officials with GPs receptionists is worth re-visiting. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. 1. Just discovered my filter coffee machine is buggered, and as we have coffee-loving family staying this weekend I needed to procure another one
2. Drove to Curry's across town and picked up a new one; returned home and gave it a test run as recommended, only to discover that water leaking out of the base before I'd even plugged it in. Drove back to Curry's to exchange it.
3. Brought the replacement home; did the test run again, and it didn't leak. Yay. However it steadfastly refused to heat up any water, rewarding me with a plaintive beep instead. Fuck's sake.
4. Ordered a different model off Amazon, which will allegedly be here before the weekend. At some point I'll have to go back to bloody Curry's again. ____________________ KC100->CB100N->CB250RS--------->DL650AL2->R1200RS->R1250RS |

Grindy enough I'm losing my landline. I was kind of attached to it but they've well and truly priced it out.
So "upgrading" (really?) to broadband only. They are all insistant I get a fibre broadband deal.
Ok, also fine, that would be great. However, there isn't a fibre optic cable within at least half a mile of my house, it stops at the BT box on the outskirts of town. The last half mile is copper and my phone line is still overhead copper on on a pole.
Now every company I checked (including my current provider) is insistant fibre to premesis is available for my address and none of them even so much as offer part fibre for my postcode.
I'm pretty sure they aren't going to dig up the three roads it would have to cross and put in half a mile of fibre optic cable to run fibre broadband into my house during their installation appointment in 3 weeks.
I suspect the best case is this installation will consist of them fitting a new master socket with the phoneline pair disconnected and telling me I now have fibre broadband (I already have part fibre). But charging me as if it's fibre to the premesis anyway.
I can see this turning into a debacle which results in me having no internet connection at all and it somehow being made out to be my fault that they said they could hook me up to a non-existant fibre optic cable. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Crippling* groin pain manifesting itself as the GOAT stitch-from-hell and which is either ("Alexa, tell me the differential diagnoses for lower groin pain") ... pelvic inflammatory disease, kidney stones or some sort of murderous gynaecological cancer disguised as trapped wind.
* Example: I went to get up from my desk and could not stand up straight beyond "bent double", that hurt a bit.
There's no blood in my wee, I'm not in the least bit constipated and I have not shagged anybody unsavoury for a very long time.
I have, however, farted quite a lot. Volubly and lengthily.
Not sure why, don't think I've eaten anything out of character lately.
So I am hoping its just trapped wind, a little lower down than usual.
But "the stitch" still there, in varying quantities of "Ouchy"
I've told my boss I suspect grumbling kidney-stones, blagged the rest of the week working from home - and have packed a handbag in case I have to unexpectedly go to A&E. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |
