Hi there,I am currently rebuilding my engine after blowing it up and have got to the starter motor and fly wheel.
The cog that initiates the flywheel from the starter motor seems very loose, I waswondering if there was anything other than the bearing at the back that holds this in place, it looks like the previous owner used theplastic case to hold itin place but surely this isnt the case??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks
pete

It was loose before I gotmy new engine, but it just sounds awefull. Like its been thrown all over the place inside the case.

Could I get any more confimations just so im not worrying whenim going to work on my bike.

Its the sound it makes that worries me the most.

Hi

Which model of Aprilia 125?

The very early AF1 held the cog between the starter motor and the plastic outer cover. Not that secure but worked. Later ones had the starter motor bolt to the bottom of the engine and a small plastic cover to hold the starter chuck on the "outside", then the outer cover over the top of that.

They always sounds pretty awful.

All the best

Keith

It is held in place at the back simply with a round bearing... nothing more, but its pretty loose in there. Maybe a new bearing is needed?

other than that the front is held in place mearly with the casing, which I think is pretty slack in the design is thats the case. no pun intended.

Someone please clear this up as im worrying all the time / not enjoying riding.

Hi

Sounds normal, as long as it has the small inner cap holding it in place under the outer cover.

All the best

Keith
